We’re are very sad to hear about the passing of Virgil. We had the opportunity to work with him over the past couple of years and he was a great man to know. He was a hard worker and wasn’t afraid to try anything.

This is from Virgil Peterson's business card. One of my favorite pictures of Virgil on his horse, Big Dandy, taken in the 1940s.

Uncle Virgil was a great older brother to my mother, Alice Peterson Carmen. He gave her not one, but TWO horses in her lifetime. He was also a great lover of horses. One of my favorite pictures I have of him is when he is on Big Dandy, and Big Dandy is raring up. He had that image made into his business cards. I tried to upload the image but the system is not working.
Virgil Peterson was a dedicated working person, driving over one million miles as a trucker without any accidents; a farmer and rancher, and in his later life, he also hired fantastic horse trainers to take his horses to shows and win champion prizes. He favored palomino colors and often would breed Quarter Horse with Arabian breeds. He was also a fan of the Rocky Mountain Horse breed.
Virgil loved raising crops, particularly wheat. Folks visiting Virgil would often bring him a bouquet of wheat to cheer him up. He was a positive person up to the end, and continually had nothing to complain about. He often commented on how well his dear wife helped take care of him, saying many times: "Helen takes good care of me".
I will miss our phone conversations. He was a gentle spirit and a great listener. He was also wise from his life time of working with people, understanding what it means to earn a paycheck, and also creating economic growth by understanding water rights, mineral rights, and the worth of land.
Rest well Virgil. Helen, my thoughts are with you.

Helen, My brother and I send our deepest sympathy with Virgil's passing. He was our cousin and we lived just a half mile away during the first ten years of our life. I have always enjoyed Virgil's quiet sense of humor and knowing his love of animals. He was always a very good horseman, who rode well and trained horses. I know you will miss his presence, but I believe his love and his spirit will remain with you always. May you find peace and comfort in your memories.
With Love and Sympathy,
Ethel & Norman Peterson
