Obituary of Clara Straub

Clara Marie Straub, known to all as Marie, was born to Walter and Ada (Britt) Sanders on April 24, 1914 in Warrensburg, MO. She died on June 24, 2006 in Denver, CO. She grew up in both Clearmont, WY and Vinita, OK, graduating high school there in 1932. She graduated from the School of Nursing at The Memorial Hospital of Sheridan County Wyoming, in 1937. She married John C. Straub, MD at the First Congregational Church in Flagler, CO on October 3, 1937. Together they provided compassionate medical care to those in eastern Colorado from facilities first in Flagler, then in Limon. Marie enjoyed needle point, knitting and crocheting afghans. She was a member of the Ladies Aid at the Flagler First Congregational Church. Following Marie and John’s retirement in 1980 they moved to Littleton, Colorado and enjoyed traveling extensively. Marie was preceded in death by her husband of 65 years, her parents, and sisters, Edna and Noah. She leaves behind three sons and their wives, Chris and Eunice of Jefferson City, MO, Stephen and Phyllis of Highlands Ranch, CO, and Justin and Melody of Zeeland, MI, grandchildren, John and Scott (wife Allison) of MO, Stephanie and Gavin (wife Michelle) of MI. Great-grandchildren include Tamerra, Elizabeth, Andrew and Lauren Marie of MO. Also surviving are two sisters-in-law Marcene Straub of Orion, IL, and Ann Campbell of Durham, NC, also numerous nieces and nephews. Her funeral service is Wednesday, June 28, 2006 at Love Funeral Home in Limon, CO at 10:30 AM. Graveside service and internment follows at the Flagler Cemetery in Flagler, CO. The family requests in lieu of flowers, memorials are suggested to the Flagler Historical Society, C/O Lyle Stone, PO Box 132, Flagler, CO 80815.
