Obituary of Evangeline Rueb
Beloved wife and mother Evangeline Rueb passed away peacefully September 20, 2009, at Valley View Villa in Fort Morgan, Colorado, surrounded by her family. Mass of Christian burial was held at St. Charles Catholic Church in Stratton, CO, on Thursday, September 24 at 10:00 a.m. Recitation of the Rosary was held at 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday, September 23 at St. Charles Catholic Church.
Evangeline Marie Schawe was born to John and Adella (Schaffer) Schawe October 21, 1923 in Spearville, Kansas, the oldest of six children. She grew up on the family farm north of Bellefont, Kansas, attended country school and graduated from Spearville High School. After graduation she moved to Dodge City and worked at the Ford County Court House. She married Justin Joseph (Sam) Rueb in St. Johnâs Catholic Church in Spearville, Kansas, on August 23, 1944. They farmed north of Dodge City before moving to the farm west of Stratton, Colorado, in 1948.
âVangieâ was the heart and binding center of the Rueb family. Together she and her beloved Sam raised seven sons and a daughter on the family farm. She was a traditional homemaker, excellent cook and baker, and all-around general manager of her busy family. Sam and Vangie retired from the daily farming operations and moved to a home in Stratton in 1989. They were married for 49 ½ years before his passing on April 5, 1994.
Vangie was a member of the St. Charles Altar and Rosary Society for over 50 years and enjoyed making scrapbooks of her familyâs lives and accomplishments. Her greatest joy in life was to have her family gathered around the table, eating, laughing and talking. When her family was around she was always the last one to go to bed and the first one up in the morning. The coffee and cinnamon rolls were always hot and waiting on the table by the time the rest of the family came into the kitchen. It is beyond words to express how much she will be missed.
Evangeline is survived by all of her eight children: John (Arlene) Rueb of Boise, ID; Bill (Paula) Rueb of Torrington, WY; Pat (Rita) Rueb of Vona, CO; Elaine Rueb of Denver, CO; Stanley Rueb of Burlington, CO; Robert Rueb of Flagler, CO; Mark (Kathy) Rueb of Scottsbluff, NE; and Justin (Barbara) Rueb, Jr. of Vona. She is also survived by her sister Kathleen (Greg) Stout, sister-in-law Karmen (Virgil) Schawe, and brother-in-law Francis âTickâ? (Dorothy) Rueb. She was the proud grandmother of twelve grandchildren and eleven great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband Sam; her parents; sister Norma Lee (Tom) Walter; sister Waneta (Robert) McGee; brother Paul (Betty) Schawe; brother Virgil Schawe, infant granddaughter Sarah Rose Rueb, and infant great-granddaughter Abigail Jo Hase.
