Obituary of Cora Freeman

Cora Nevina Knutson, daughter of Edwin and Clara (Halvorson) Knutson was born on August 21, 1913 at her grandparents homestead 9 miles North East of Genoa. When she was three, her parents moved to their farm 6 miles North West of Bovina where she grew up. She attended one year at Fairview Country School. When schools were consolidated, she attended and graduated from Bovina High School in 1931. Cora worked at the Genoa Tower keeping books and other odd jobs for Charles Gregory and Myrtle Le Bow. She married Myron (Mike) Freeman on March 13, 1933. Cora knew Mike all through her school days. They lived in Flagler a short time, then in Genoa, and then moved to Bovina to begin hauling mail. After Mike got a job as county road boss, Cora became the mail carrier and hauled mail for 41 years from Bovina and later from Genoa. Their sons, David Edwin and Donald Myron were born while they lived in Bovina. Cora was baptized and confirmed at Christ Lutheran Church of Genoa and was active and faithful in Sunday School, Choir, Ladies Aid, and Luther League. She also served as Church Secretary and Organist. She was interested in the town and community, especially the Senior Center where she was the leader for many years. Her interests were reading, puzzles, and especially quilt making. She made many quilts over the years especially for the Senior Center, her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren. After living in their Genoa Home for 40 years, Cora and Mike moved to the Golden Prairie Assisted Living Home in Hugo because of illness. After Mike passed away, Cora moved to Carla's Cluster in Limon. Cora was preceded in death by her parents, her beloved husband Myron, her son David Freeman of Tucson, her brothers Orvil Knutson of Bingen, Washington; Raymond Knutson killed at St. Lo, France; Freddie Knutson (Berniece) of Greeley, Colorado, and sister, Lena Schoening (Bob) of Seward, Alaska. Cora was survived by her son Don and Marilyn Freeman, their daughters Peggy and Deborah (Mark) their son Mark (Kim); daughter in law Karma Freeman, her son Mike (Carol), daughter Kristi, son Jeff (Lisa); 6 grand children, 10 great grand children, one great, great grandson; one sister Ethel Patterson of Limon; sister in law Ruth Knutson of Bingen, Washington; many nieces, nephews and friends.
