Obituary of Elmer Schaal
Elmer C. Schaal was born December 29, 1924 to Emil and Pauline C. Schaal in the German settlement north of Bethune. He went to Burlington school through the 7th grade. He worked for several area farmers as a young adult until 1960 when he bought his farm 1 mile south of Bonny Dam. He lived on this farm until his passing on November 5, 2009.
Elmer met his wife Evelyn L. Abbott and married her on January 23, 1966. To this union was three children Nick, Rex and Gail. He built a new house for the family in 1971.
Elmer is preceded in death by his wife Evelyn, parents Emil and Pauline C. Schaal, brother Louis Schaal, brothers-in-law Rueben Anderson, Harold Stover, Elmer Dobler, Ed Abbott, Joe Abbott, Frank Abbott and Chester Abbott. Sisters-in-law Donna Schaal, Helen Schaal, Murney Abbott, and parents-in-law Hovey and Murney Abbott.
He is survived by his children Nick and Lisa Schaal, Rex Schaal and Gail and Tom Schlichenmayer, and one grandchild Samantha Schlichenmayer. Brothers and sisters Cliff Schaal, Viola Stover, Leo Schaal, Milton and Carol Schaal, Dolores Dobler, Connie Schaal, and Dalwon and Rita Schaal, Hovey Abbott, Sarah Abbott, and many nieces, nephews, and many friends.
Elmer was a good father, brother, and friend and will be greatly missed.
