I do not return often to the area, and recently learned of Dr. Scarinzi's passing.
My deepest sympathies.
I once wrote about a time when I returned home and visited with him.

So Many Good Memories - January 3, 2016
Posted: January 3, 2016 | Last Revised: January 3, 2016
My sister & I were both adopted so Doc didnt deliver us, but he was our doctor from the time we were brought home. In about 1964 my mother was bitten by a rattle snake, he saved her life. Doc & his family lived across the alley from my grandparents. We spent many Sunday afternoons playing in the basement with Maria. We were never scared when we had to go to the doctor. He called my sister Mickey Mouse & I was Funny Face. I was then fortunate enough to have him deliver 2 of my 3 children.. my oldest & my youngest. My daughters name is Joni, he called her Josephine & my sons name is Chris, but he called him Little Joe (after my dad). The pharmacist would always be so perplexed at what my childrens names really were because Doc would write those nicknames on the prescription pad. He must have told every kid in Eastern Colo the belly button story! There are really no words to describe how this man impacted and shaped so so many lives. He was a great man & loved by so many.

Great dr.
Posted: January 2, 2016 | Last Revised: January 2, 2016
Was a great dr., blunt and to the point. When I had my tonsils removed and had to get a blood transfusion he told me he was giving me rabbits blood. I was around 5 or 6 yrs old. He also told me that if I played with my belly button I would unscrew it and my butt would fall off. Wish more dr would be like him. He was great.

The Belly Button Story (repeated)
Posted: January 2, 2016 | Last Revised: January 2, 2016
Love the Belly Button story! He told my daughter, Crystal Johnson (Limon) the same story when she was little and suffering from a bad sore throat.
I only met him that one time but, he was definately one of those guys (Doctors) that you never forget!
I hear that a large part Rural East Central Colorado was touched by his gift of healing!

Blizzard of 1984 Baby Home Delivery - April 3, 1984
Posted: January 3, 2016 | Last Revised: January 3, 2016
It was a terrible blizzard in April 1984, and my brother and family were stranded in Arriba at my parents home. My sister-in-law Lori Cash was 9 months pregnant and was in labor. My husband Lonnie Fager drove the City Maintainer to Doc Scarinzis office, who by some miracle found himself stranded in Arriba as well. Then Doc asked if Lonnie would mind going and getting a local resident and friend, Pat Price, to help him deliver the baby. As a result my 3rd niece, Andrea Jayne Cash was born at my parents (Tom and Lorrain Cashs) residence. A memory I will never forget.
I cannot put into words how much this man meant to our entire family and community. He was loved, admired, and cherished. If Doc was there, everything was going to be okay. I have not been able to stop crying since I heard. Im not sure if it the fact that a "one of kind man" is now gone, or if it is the attachment in my heart that just does not want to let go. He will forever be remembered and will never be forgotten. There will never be another Dr. Scarinzi.

The birth of my son, Joshua - December 31, 1980
Posted: January 3, 2016 | Last Revised: January 3, 2016
Doc delivered my fourth child, Joshua on New Years Eve 1980. He wanted to break my water but my mom, Mary Sterling, knew that was what I didnt want and made sure it didnt happen. Then she went home to bed since she had to work that night. I remember after Doc delivered Josh it looked like he was unwinding a jump rope! He then sang "Ava Maria" while he stitched me up. Later he told me that Joshua had had a knot in his cord and if he had waited a few more days to be born he would have been stillborn since every time he moved the knot would tighten. For this Doc has always had a special place in my heart!
