Obituary of Thelma Arrowood

Thelma Marie Arrowood was born in rural Kentucky on June 28, 1921, the second daughter of Ida and Jasper Arrowood. When Thelma was around two years old, the family moved to Valparaiso, Indiana. After about a year, they moved to the Denver metro area where they resided until Thelma was ten. At that time, the family of five moved to Lake Station which is near Limon. She and her sisters rode the school bus to attend the Limon school until graduation. During World War II, Thelma moved to Utah where she was employed at Hill Field helping with the war effort by working on aircraft instruments. When the war ended, she returned to the Denver area and became a talented seamstress, going to work for Goodwill Industries. She was honored as Worker of the Year and was interviewed on television for her accomplishments. Thelma especially enjoyed making doll clothes for deprived children. After several years, and in failing health, Thelma chose to retire and move back to Limon. She really loved being around her family and friends and being an integral part of their lives. Thelma was a firm believer in God and lived her life according to her scriptural beliefs. She passed into God’s hands on January 5, 2016. Thelma was preceded in death by her parents, Ida and Jasper Arrowood, and brothers-in-law Henry Horton and Bill Monks. She is survived by two sisters; Gladys Monks of Limon, Colorado and Mildred Horton of Phoenix, Arizona. Thelma is also survived by two nephews and their families: Larry Monks (Casey) of Limon, their son Jon Monks (Julie, Logan and Xander) and Jennifer Monks (Paul); and Steve Monks (Teresa) of Limon, their sons Matt (Jen, Ava and Quinn) and Zach. Thelma also leaves behind many friends. She will be greatly missed by her family and friends.
