Visiting over freshly ironed clothes
Posted: May 18, 2010 | Last Revised: May 18, 2010
I first met Thelma in 1957 as I was a young married lady. We both lived in South Limon and there were coffee parties for all the neighbor ladies to go to and visit or celebrate a birthday, new baby,or about anything.....
As my family grew into 2 little girl's and a little nephew, I had mountains of clothes. In those day's everything was made out of cotton or rayon and wrinkled like you wouldn't believe....The girl's always wore dresses and I a house dress as they were called in those days. The guys wore shirt's that also needed to be ironed. The jeans went on stretchers..
Anyway, once a week I would take these clean, folded wrinkled clothes to Thelma, as did many people. She would sprinkle them down and iron them to look brand new and without a wrinkle. I wouldn't know how many hours she spent ironing clothes as she always had lots of ironed clothes there for many different people in the community. This all on top of raising here own family, and all the other jobs she had.
Thelma always had time for a visit about the kids, gardening or anything else that was going on
