Obituary of Edmund Gramm

Edmund Gramm was born October 1, 1920 at the home of his parents, Gottlieb and Lydia (Stutz) Gramm north of Bethune, Colorado. He joined two older brothers, Loyd; born February 15, 1918 and Lawrence: born June 14, 1919. Two sisters were to be added to the family, Elma Gramm Schaal; born May 16, 1923 and Esther Gramm Corliss; born September 26, 1932. He was baptized and attended Hope Church north of Bethune and was later confirmed in 1935. He attended the country school Prairie School District 22 located 12 miles north of Bethune through the 8th grade. On December 8, 1946 he married Esther Knodel at the home of Esther’s parents, Jim and Vera Knodel north of Bethune. To this union three children were added to the family. The first a son, James Richard born October 4, 1951 but he only lived a few hours, a son Fredrick Gene born January 31, 1953 and a daughter, JoAnn Lucille born July 14, 1955 both born in Burlington, Colorado. Edmund and Esther lived north of Bethune on the family farm, where he started farming with horses and finished with tractors. He enjoyed farming and raising cattle his entire life. Edmund was preceded in death by his parents, infant son, James Richard, one brother Loyd Gramm and his wife Fern, one sister Elma Schaal and her husband Ted, one brother-in-law Mervin Corliss, sister-in-law Ruby Schlichenmayer and her husband Chris, and sister-in-law Alice Gramm. He is survived by his wife Esther Gramm of Stratton, his son Fred Gramm and his wife Sheryl of Stratton, his daughter JoAnn Anderson and her husband Doug of Burlington, six grandchildren, Courtney Gramm and his wife Amanda of Highlands Ranch, CO, MInette Barber of Denver, Chris Gramm and his fiancé Andrea Webber of Stratton, Megan Barber of Denver, Ben Gramm and Gretja Gramm of Stratton, and three step-grandchildren; Rhonda Anderson of North Platte, NE, David Anderson and his wife Rebecca of Bethlehem, PA and Morgan Anderson of Denver. Edmund also had two great grandsons; Evan and Logan Gramm. He is also survived by one brother Lawrence Gramm of Stratton, one sister Esther Corliss of Stratton, brother-in-law Paul Knodel and his wife Mildred of Lakewood, CO, brother-in-law/cousin Melvin Gramm and his wife Pat of Lake wood, CO, sister-in-law Jeanette Amman and her husband Gene of Ogden, Utah and numerous cousins, nieces and nephews Edmund passed away on May 5 2010 at Grace Manor Care Center. He has been a part of this community for 89 years and will be greatly missed.
