Obituary of Laurine Weaver
Lifelong Burlington, Colorado resident, Laurine G. Weaver passed away on January 20, 2016 at the Kit Carson County Memorial Hospital in Burlington. She was 88 years old.
Laurine was born at home on her parent’s farm northeast of Burlington, Colorado on November 5, 1927 to Jacob and Pauline (Weisshaar) Schlichenmayer. She was the second of seven children.
Laurine attended the Tip Top School approximately 1 ½ miles west of the farm. She then went to school in Burlington and graduated from Burlington High school in 1945. After graduating high school, Laurine worked as a cashier and clerk for The Bank of Burlington. She worked and lived in Burlington until meeting and marrying Dannie Weaver. They wed on April 19, 1950 in Steamboat Springs, Colorado.
They moved into an old farm house eight miles south and four miles east of town on ground they had rented to farm. Laurine spent a great deal of time cleaning out old gunny sacks, which were stacked from floor to ceiling, before the house was cleared out enough for her to clean the house and move in, as the house had not been lived in for quite some time. They began setting up the farm by preparing a garden, building a chicken house, putting up a milking stall, and building corrals for hogs and cattle. She planted a large garden every year, as to which she did a tremendous amount of canning to ensure their family was well fed through the winter. She raised chickens for eggs and made some of the best fried chicken gravy you could ask for, which was greatly appreciated by the many hired men who she fed daily.
To this union, three children were born, Ryan Lee, LaDan Kay and LaVonne Mae.
After moving to town in 1960, she took on a more important role of raising a family. She took this role very seriously. She was very involved in the kids’ endeavors, from serving as a Cub Scout Den Leader, to following the kids in all their school activities. Along with all that was lovingly needed in raising the kids, she still had time to work at the sale barn on sale day. As the kids grew older, Laurine maintained a role as truck driver for the family farm during annual harvest. As the grandkids arrived, she became just as active in their lives as her own kids. She enjoyed helping out with the grandkids and being involved with all their activities. Her love and care for her grandkids will forever be in their memories. She worked at Coast to Coast until the store closed, then worked at the front desk of the Super 8 Hotel. Later she helped her good friend, Val Pickard at the antique store, which she dearly loved. Upon the closure of the antique store, she began working at Herman’s Decorating and had been there for the past 16 years.
Laurine was a member of the First St. Paul’s Lutheran Church. She enjoyed going to church, and could be found helping out with various church activities until her later years.
Preceding her in death are her parents, Jacob and Pauline Schlichenmayer, one sister Shirley Sailor and two brothers Leonard Schlichenmayer and Lloyd Schlichenmayer.
She is survived by her three children Ryan Weaver and his wife Linda, LaDan Reents and her husband Ray, and LaVonne Beacom. She is also survived by five grandchildren, LynAnn Centofanti and her husband Dustin, Jadan Weaver, Tyson Reents and his wife Kari, Colt Reents and his wife Amber, and Justina Beacom; one great grandson Cason Reents; three sisters, Edna Morgan, Della Plucheck, and Esther Armitstead, sister-in-law Sheila Schlichenmayer, brother-in-law Wayne Sailor, two godchildren Donalda Weaver and Ree Schlichenmayer, as well as numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. She will be greatly missed by all.
