Obituary of Donald Peck

Donald Dean Peck, 78, of Limon Colorado passed away on December 4, 2010 at the Lincoln Community Hospital in Hugo Colorado. Don was born July 7, 1932 In Genoa CO; Son of Marion and Blanche (Brown) Peck one of three children, Don being the eldest, followed by his brother, Glen Edward and his sister Bertha Delany. Don grew up in Eastern Colorado. Don and Mary (Randolph) were married on Nov 2nd 1952 and have recently celebrated their 58th wedding anniversary. Don and Mary met in Boyero, Colorado during his work on the railroad and they were married in Raton NM at the Methodist Church. Don attended school up until 8th grade at the Long Branch Country School, Southeast of Hugo. Don was preceded in death by his parents, by his two siblings Glen and Bertha as well as two nephews that were Glen’s sons. Don is survived by his wife Mary Elizabeth, their six children, all of which live in Colorado: His daughter Debra (Myron) Sams and grandchildren; Josh, Lee, Lauren and Clay, great grandchildren; Alyssa, Kennedy, Ashton, Haley, Katelyn, Collin, Connick, Kessik. Step grandchildren; Ryan, Sarah, Jordan, and Alicia. His son Tony (Janet) Peck and grandchildren; James Dean and Austin. His daughter Terri (Tim) Brann. His daughter Patricia Boyd, grandchildren, Allen and Laura, grandchildren; Christopher and Alexia. His daughter Kim Hilferty, grandchildren, Ethan, Tanner and Abby. His son Kevin (Shondell) Peck, grandchildren, Tristan, Reagan and Rafe. Don served in the United States Army as a stateside Corporal and was posted in Fort Leonard Wood, Missouri; Camp Polk, Louisiana; and Fort Riley, Kansas. Don originally began working on the Union Pacific Railroad for a period of 8 years followed by a career of mechanic work that had influence in the lives of many that he was privileged to serve over the years. Don worked for truck stops in Eads and Lamar for a period of 13 years. This time was followed by a period of 2 years working for a farmer in the Eads area which then led him to the Flying J (Husky) Truck stop in Limon Colorado. Don worked for Flying J for a period of time and then ran his own business through the Flying J truck stop beginning in 1978. Don worked for Flying J up until 1992 when he went into his own road tire service. This he did for the rest of his life. Don worked for a lot of truckers and farmers in the eastern Colorado area and considered these people his very good friends in life. Don had a tremendous love of family and enjoyed vacation time with them sometimes at a distance and other times simply enjoying family hiking trips in the Colorado area. His gentle spirit and love for his family and friends was most clearly communicated through his eyes and his willingness to serve and go above and beyond to assist those in need.
