Obituary of Bettie Metcalf

Bettie Rae Metcalf, 71, of Limon, Colorado went to be with her Savior and Lord on January 05, 2011 in Hugo, Colorado after battling lung cancer for 2 years. Bettie was born on April 27, 1939 in Flagler, Colorado to Loren and Mabel (Roseberry) Plumb one of seven children. She grew up in Flagler and later in life she went to Northern Junior College in Sterling, Colorado where she received her Associates Degree in Business. Bettie married Daniel Paul Metcalf on December 16, 1956 and the couple was blessed with two daughters; Melody and Cindy living in Limon until moving to Yuma in 1973. The couple returned to Limon in 1990. Her family was her life and Bettie enjoyed being a faithful wife to Paul for 54 years and loving mother of her beautiful daughters, but being a grandmother was her delight. Bettie was an avid antique collector which took the couple to many new and exciting places looking for that special treasure. Bettie loved her Lord and she was very active in the Baptist Church where she taught Sunday school and was active in women's ministry. She worked at Hoffman Drug for approximately 16 years and everyone missed her bright smile and gentle hug or kiss on the check after she retired. Bettie was preceded in death by her parents, one brother Verle Plumb and one infant sister Della May. She was also preceded by her sister-in-law Roslyn Plumb and brother-in-law Gus Vassios. She is survived by her husband Daniel Paul Metcalf of Limon, Colorado and her daughters; Melody and her husband Justin Straub of Colorado Springs, Colorado and Cindy and husband Herman Schledwitz of Escondido, California. Bettie is survived by her grandchildren; Raymond Schledwitz, Stephanie (Troy) Yeager, Sara (Elvis) Toledano and Gavin Straub and one great grandson Kyle Schledwitz. She is also survived by siblings; Philip Plumb of Arriba, Colorado, Vel Vassios of Flagler, Colorado, Barbara Gibbons of Santa Barbara, California and Margie and Paul Pitts of Limon, Colorado. Bettie will be greatly missed by her family and many friends.
