Earl Jensen

Obituary of Earl Jensen

Earl James Jensen, 78, a life-long resident of Hugo, CO passed away on January 14, 2011. Earl was born the 7th of 13 children on May 3, 1932 near Hugo to parents Jens Peter and Viola (Rasmussen) Jensen. He married Alice Orrell on December 2, 1950 and to this union they were blessed with three children, Ardith, Mike and Marla. Early in their marriage Earl and Alice moved to Vacaville, CA where Earl served in the Air Force from 1950-1954. After completing his duty in the Air Force, Earl and Alice returned to Hugo where Earl owned and operated his own service station and garage. It was there that he met a beloved friend when he traded a tire repair for a dog, Elmer. One of his greatest pleasures was taking a worn out car and making it like new. Earl loved fixing things. When his kids had something break they said, “It’s okay, Dad will fix it!” Earl was a great story teller and loved the laughter after his jokes. His grandchildren especially loved listening to him when he got that familiar twinkle in his eye and told stories about and teased his bride, Alice. A favorite past time was around the pool table with friends and his brothers. Going fishing a couple times each year and later, golfing and bowling were also favorites. Owning his own airplane and flying was truly “living the dream” for Earl. Until the last years, Earl lived in his house that he loved on the hill where he enjoyed gardening and all kinds of projects. Earl was a member of the Masonic Lodge and had received his 50 year pin. He and Alice were excited to celebrate their 60th wedding anniversary on December 2, 2010 with cake and ice cream at the nursing home in Hugo.
