Betty Vratil

Obituary of Betty Vratil

Betty Lou (Reynolds ) Vratil was born March 15, 1928 in Preston, Kansas to Cecil and Cora Reynolds. She was the fourth daughter of seven children. She married Louis Vratil on August 21, 1947 in Turon, Kansas. The Lord called her to join her husband, Louis, on February 15, 2016. Louis and Betty started their lives together in Turon, Kansas. In the early 50’s, they moved to Limon, Colorado. They brought with them three children; Scott, Vaughn, and Terri. While in Colorado, the family grew by three more children: Doug, Colleen, and Greg. Betty was not only a farmer and rancher’s wife, but managed to raise a very active group of children. Their children were active in everything that was available in Limon. One of Betty’s finest memories was going from a wringer washing machine to an automatic washing machine and electric dryer! Betty and Louis moved from town to their farm south of Limon in 1960. In Betty’s spare time, when she was not cooking, cleaning, and gardening; she was active as a 4-H Leader, member of the Catholic Ladies Sodality, and PTA. In addition, she was a passionate Bridge player. Betty and Louis were very proud and supportive of their children and grandchildren. They traveled all over the state and nation to share in their families’ activities and celebrate their achievements. Betty purchased the Limon Dairy King Restaurant in the late 60’s. The family has lots of memories of working in the establishment, but one that will draw a definite response from her children was the arrival of numerous cases of fresh whole chickens that needed to be prepared for the restaurant. To this day many of her children are not fond of chicken. Some of Betty’s best memories were trips to area lakes to water ski with family and friends. There are lots of great stories that came from these trips and the escapades that occurred. Once Betty and Louis retired, they traveled to many areas of the United States and around the World. Eventually, they spent a large portion of their later years in Mesa, Arizona. Betty talked about the many friends and activities they participated in while living there. She was preceded in death by her husband, Louis. She is survived by her six children; Scott (Jan), Vaughn (Alisa), Terri (Gerry), Doug (Linette), Colleen (John), and Greg (Cindy), and her thirteen Grandchildren and nineteen Great Grandchildren. She is also survived by her sisters Helen June, Lois, and Sharon.
