Obituary of Ofcr. Jay Sheridan

Officer Jay Sheridan, 27, ended his watch on March 9, 2011 in Limon, Colorado while performing his duties as a police officer. Jay was born June 18, 1983 to Tim and Mary Ann (Englert) Sheridan at St. Francis Hospital in Colorado Springs, Colorado. Jay grew up on the family’s cattle ranch outside of Simla and was a member of Saint Michael’s Catholic Church of Calhan. He graduated from Big Sandy High School in 2001. While Jay was in school he participated in wrestling, industrial arts, auto mechanics, and 4-H. Jay was always pushing himself to work harder and harder, a characteristic he kept with him throughout life. To his family and friends he loved playing practical jokes and most of all just socializing with people. Jay enjoyed the outdoors, whether it was working with his goats, target practice, hunting, or fishing. There are not too many third graders that can say they know exactly what it is in life that they are destined to do. However, when Jay was in 3rd grade, he graduated from the D.A.R.E. program and he told his mother then that he wanted to be a police officer. After Jay graduated high school he worked as an auto mechanic at the same time also completing associates degrees in automotive and diesel technology at NJC. This wouldn’t last long as Jay’s calling in life was to wear the uniform. In 2004 Jay realized his dream and graduated the Police Academy shortly after accepting a position with the Limon Police department. It was there that he assisted, protected and unselfishly sacrificed his life for the community he loved. On July 5, 2008 Jay and Heather Pfeiff were married by Judge Lee Fisher. To this union one child was born, Isabel Marie. Jay was a wonderful father and devoted husband always putting family first. Jay was preceded in death by his grand parents. He is survived by his wife, Heather Sheridan of Limon, CO; his twenty-one month old daughter, Isabel Marie Sheridan; his parents, Tim and Mary Ann Sheridan of Simla, CO; his brother, Shane Sheridan of Ft. Collins, CO; his sister, Autumn Sheridan of Ft. Collins, CO; his brother-in-law Lance Pfeiff of Wellington, CO; his father and mother-in-law, Tim and Penny Pfeiff of Olney Springs, CO and Frank and Joyce Pfeiff of Ordway, CO. He is also survived by numerous aunts, uncles and cousins.
