Obituary of Astrid Korsvold

Astrid Josephine (Walli) Korsvold age 100 of Limon, Colorado passed away Saturday, July 2, 2011 at Carla’s Cluster Care in Limon, Colorado. She was born April 8, 1911 in LaCrosse, Washington the daughter of a hard working farming father and mother, John and Anna (Solem) Walli. She was the third of eight children born. John and Anna had married in 1906. In 1907 they set sail to Ellis Island, New York from Selbu, Norway to truly live the American dream. They took the railroad across the frontier to settle in LaCrosse, Washington. They lived in LaCrosse until 1917 until they decided to move to the Lincoln County Area near Limon when Astrid was six years old to a new family farm. She grew up in Limon and attended a country school north of Limon and graduated from Limon High School in 1928. After high school, Astrid attended and received her teaching certificate from Colorado State Teachers College in Greeley, Colorado which is now the University of Northern Colorado. Astrid later received her Bachelors degree in Education from Eastern Washington State University. Astrid began her teaching career in the same country school north of Limon that she attended. She had seventeen students and taught six grades. She taught there a year and then in 1930 she taught in Genoa, Colorado. In 1934, Astrid’s parents moved back to LaCrosse due to the dust bowl and the extreme weather conditions. In 1942 Astrid moved back to LaCrosse and taught schools there in nearby Ritzville and Walla Walla. Astrid had planned to retire in Washington but was reacquainted with Simon Korsvold who was visiting from Limon, Colorado. On June 6, 1954 in Laramie, Wyoming she was united in marriage to Simon Alfred Korsvold. They then moved back to Limon, Colorado where Simon farmed and Astrid taught school from 1955 until she retired in 1969 after forty-one years of service. Simon and Astrid shared over thirty years of marriage before Simon passed away in 1984. She was a member of the Zion Lutheran Church in Limon. She was also a life long member of the Walk’s Camp Evangelical Church where she was confirmed and attended the very first service held in September of 1919. She was an active member of the Hub City Senior Center, the Walk’s Camp and the Zion Lutheran Ladies Aids, and the Limon Heritage Society. Astrid spent most of her life caring and teaching her students how to live on earth. She taught them how to face its struggles and its strife with the ability to improve their worth. Her love and knowledge helped her family, her students, and her friends appreciate her in ways they would have never realized without her guidance. She will be greatly missed by the many, many friends she made wherever she went and by her family she loved so much. Her warm spirit, her toughness, and her love will be expressed in everybody’s lives forever… Mrs. Korsvold is survived by two sister-in-laws, Margie Peppel and Willie Walli; 27 nieces and nephews, Kerry Korsvold (Regina), Rhonda Garleich (Fred), John K.
