Obituary of Ruth Baxter
Ruth Julia Baxter age 90, of Limon, Colorado passed away peacefully in her home Wednesday, September 14, 2011. Ruth was born December 16, 1920 in Pearl Beech, Michigan the daughter of Walter and Isabella (Paquette) Bedford. In 1923, at the age of three, Ruth and her sister Pat and their infant brother, were tragically orphaned when their parents died of Typhoid Fever.
Ruth married Floyd Hardy in June of 1940, to this union they shared five children and later divorced after 27 years of marriage. Ruth was later united in marriage to Chester Baxter in December of 1965. They shared nine years of marriage before Chester passed away in 1974.
Ruth had various jobs over the course of her lifetime. In her early twenties, during the war effort for WWII in California, she worked for Galvin Manufacturing Company helping to make handheld transceivers. Today they are better known as walkie-talkies. She also worked for a company that manufactured military uniforms as well as many years as a school custodian in Watts Oklahoma. In her later years, to supplement her income, she was best known as the Cookie Lady. Ruth spent many days baking cookies to sell around town, and to spread the gospel in her own very special way. It was one of her many ways of giving back and doing work for her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. Ruths most precious work though, was being a devoted mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother.
She was a member of the Oasis Hope Church in Limon, Colorado. She enjoyed crocheting, baking, and most all, she loved spending time with her family and friends.
Ruth will be greatly missed by the many, many friends she made wherever she went and by her family she loved so much. Her spirit and her love will be expressed in their daily lives forever
Ruth is survived by one daughter, Miriam Osburn of Denver, Colorado; three sons, Lowell Hardy and his wife Jessica of Arvada, Colorado, Phillip Hardy and his wife Barbara of Parker, Colorado and Steven Hardy and his wife Sarah of Limon, Colorado; eleven grandchildren; and thirteen great-grandchildren.
