Obituary of Floyd Mock

Floyd Elvin Mock, 76, passed away October 27th, 2011, at his home in Limon, Colorado with family by his side. Born March 5th, 1935 to Virgil W. Mock and Vivian (Fones) Mock in Clayton, New Mexico. The family moved to Limon in 1949. Floyd is survived by his wife, Grace Mock, of Limon, son Gilbert Mock Braun (Kathi) of Littleton, stepsons Ernst Robinson (Lisa) of Denver and Gary Robinson (Kari) of Longmont, son Douglas (Kristen) of Littleton, mother Vivian Mock of the Good Samaritan Home of Simla, sister Myra Sue West (Edwin) of Falcon, brothers Virgil Wilson Mock Jr. (Donna) of Norton, Kansas and Dale L. Mock (Janet) of Greeley, two grandsons, four step grandsons, two step grand daughters, a granddaughter, and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his father Virgil and daughter Becky. Floyd was president of his senior class at Limon in 1953. He played football in his junior and senior years, was in the choir his freshman and sophomore years, class treasurer his freshman year. He learned to play the violin and played solo at his senior graduation. He was a member of the “Bloody Six”, a group of high school friends that knew how to have a good time together. After Floyd graduated from high school, he initially ran a dairy for 10 years, and then ranched until retiring. He loved taking care of the cattle each year and the challenges. During his ranching years, he enjoyed flying his airplane to “check on cattle”, an excuse he used to get up in the air, attending fly-ins as part of the International Flying Farmers and Ranchers, and fishing trips to Canada with family and friends. Hobbies that he enjoyed included restoring old buggies, one of which is now on display in the Limon Historic Museum -- he also restored the chuck wagon. He put in a large garden every summer, and especially enjoyed sharing his vegetables with family and friends -- local kids still talk of him sharing pumpkins from his pumpkin patch. He and Nate Einertson enjoyed the opportunity of working together to host community barbeques at both the Lincoln and Elbert County Fairs for many years, serving as many as 1200 people. At family gatherings, the grandchildren, nieces and nephews liked to sit around and listen to Floyd tell of things and happenings of his childhood and life as a rancher. Floyd always got a big kick out of playing tricks on all of them. Memorials in Floyd’s honor can be made to the Lincoln Community Hospital, P.O. Box 248, Hugo, Colorado 80821
