Send Flowers Wilbur D. Hanson December 23, 1918 - November 9, 2011 Wilbur D. Hanson age 92 of Limon, Colorado passed away November 9, 2011 in Limon, Colorado. Wilbur was born December 23, 1918 in Kutch, Colorado the son of Hans and Mary (Moon) Hanson. He attended and graduated from Lone Tree School in rural Kutch, Colorado. In 1941, Wilbur proudly served in the United States Army. He was a combat engineer and traveled to many countries such as: Algeria, France, Morocco, Tunisia, Italy and much of the entire central European region. Wilbur earned the rank of Technician Fourth Grade and was Honorably Discharged on July 31, 1945. Wilbur served from 1942-1944 in the European Theater twice and the African Theater. He earned the Good Conduct Medal, American Service Medal, American Defense Service Medal, European Service Medal, African Service Medal, Middle Eastern Service Medal, Meritorious Service Unit Insignia with one gold star and one bronze service arrowhead from the European Theater. On February 19, 1960 Wilbur was united in marriage to Marion T. Sanford in Colorado Springs, Colorado. She passed away on October 11, 1983 in Rush, Colorado. They shared over twenty-three years of marriage. Wilbur was a life long rancher and farmer. His heart and soul was his land and his unconditional love for his cattle and sheep was immeasurable. He had a special gift with animals that only few men on this planet could match. When Wilbur took a brief break from ranching he would try and find some time to go fishing which he always enjoyed. Wilbur loved his ranch so much that it took the decline of his health for him to finally retire when he was in his late eighties. Wilbur will be dearly missed by his family and friends. His spirit and his character will live on and be expressed in everybody’s daily lives forever… Wilbur is survived by two nephews, Carl Hanson of Limon, Colorado and William Kelly of Florida; one niece Alice Barton of Colorado Springs, Colorado; one step-daughter, Betty Turner of California; and one sister, Iva Kelly of Colorado Springs, Colorado. Mr. Hanson is preceded in death by his parents; his wife Marion; and his brother Norton Hanson.
