Lance Allen Short was born on May 19th, 1969 in Burlington, Colorado to Jerry Short and Betsy Scheierman-Schutte. He attended Kindergarten in Stratton, Colorado where his first teacher was his grandmother, June Short. As a young boy, Lance was a regular attendee at the Stratton Church of God, and his first love was going to the farm with his grandparents.
A short time later, the family moved to Burlington where Lance attended school. During his years at Burlington High School, Lance was very active in athletics including Basketball and Football. In 1986, Lance was named All Conference in Football and was part of a playoff team. Lance also enjoyed FFA and shop classes before graduating from BHS in 1987.
Upon graduation, Lance moved to Hays, Kansas to attend Fort Hays State. While there he studied sports medicine. He became active in a fraternity and completed hundreds of hours of flight school with close friend Mark Foos.
Lance returned to Burlington and continued a career with Schutte Farms. He was most at home on a farm or ranch working the fields and working with cattle. After 20 years with Schutte Farms, Lance moved to the Denver Metro area and began working in the aviation industry.
Lance's passions included the Denver Broncos, the Atlanta Braves and the Duke Blue Devils. He was also a huge Country music fan, especially the "old country".
