Obituary of Hildur Schiffner
Hildur Ellen Walsh Schiffner, longtime resident of Burlington, Colorado, went to be with the Lord on March 2, 2012. She passed peacefully, surrounded by friends and family.
Hildur was born in Frederick, Colorado, July 15, 1921, to John and Olga Walsh. She was the third of four siblings. She graduated from high school in Frederick and became the devoted wife of Wayne Russell Schiffner on November 1, 1941.
Her life on the family farm included nurturing six daughters, as well as refining her talents as an agricultural business woman. Her six daughters are: Kathleen Thorson, Claudia Stallings, Sharon Lakey, Waynette Yarmer, Harriet Warren and Nancy VanEtten. Hildur has 13 grandchildren, as well as 12 great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild soon to be born.
Hildur was recognized for her home economics involvement, her active 4-H leadership, wheat conservation accomplishments with husband Wayne, accordion studio, the Schiffner Dance Band, PTA and various other community activities. Wayne and Hildur were avid band parents for 20 years. She was an active member of the Dawn Bible Students and most recently a member of the Trinity Bible Study Church of Pueblo, Colorado.
Hildur spent most of her adult years on the family farm, creating a legacy for her children and grandchildren. When she relocated to Pueblo after Waynes death, she continued to be an active participant in her farming business. She exhibited an unrelenting love of the land.
For the past few years, Hildurs health declined and the progression of Alzheimers disease necessitated her recent relocation to the Palisades at Broadmoor Park, a memory care unit in Colorado Springs, wherein she passed.
Hildurs interests and hobbies included family heritage, art work, zealous reading, travel, technology and her passion for fishing. She consistently won the familys Poudre Pig competition for the first catch of the day.
Her most recent watercolor, entitled Windblown, was chosen to be part of the 2012 Memories in the Making 14th Annual Art Auction to benefit the Alzheimer's Association Colorado Chapter. She also wished to have a memorial established in her name for the local Alzheimer chapter in Colorado Springs.
Hildur was preceded in death by her mother Olga, her father John, her brother Jackie, her sister Olga Marie and her husband Wayne R. Schiffner. She is survived by her brother Robert (Bobbie Carl) Walsh and her six daughters and their families.
Hildur, a loving mother, great friend, inspirational companion, and a gracious guide in our lives was a faithful servant and loved by friends and family; she will be missed.
