Anita Wood

Obituary of Anita Wood

Anita Lou Wood was born to Wallace Louis and Ann Elizabeth Trimpey in Culbertson, Nebraska on September 10, 1933. Anita spent her youth in Culbertson and later attended the Colorado Women’s College in Denver, Colorado. While at school she met Christopher Noble Wood and they married on June 13, 1952. The couple later moved to Burlington, Colorado where they celebrated the births of their two sons; Michael Brent Wood and Shane Christopher Wood. Anita was a very active presence in her son’ lives. She taught Sunday school classes, led the troop as Den Mother, was Clerk of the Course for the swim team, and never missed a school event for her own children, the neighbor kids and the children of all her friends. Anita worked for the Burlington Record as a typesetter for 35 years, enjoying the frequent potlucks and daily antics. She also volunteered at the Colorado Welcome Center for many years. Anita delighted in playing bridge, spending time with her many friends, and traveling, both with her family and on the Lazy K bus. She was a member of the Red Hat Society, the E.S.A. Sorority, the Garden Club, and was an active Cougar Fan, regularly attending games and events. Anita was never happier than when she became a grandmother three times. The love that she shared with each of them was endless. The pride and joy she had for her grandchildren was shared with many. In recent years health issues forced Anita to slow down, keeping her from being as active as she would have liked. She still enjoyed time spent with friends and family, and her concern for others never lessened. Anita passed away on Sunday, July 8, 2012 at Kit Carson County Memorial Hospital from health complications. Anita was preceded in death by her parents, and by her son, Michael Brent Wood. She is survived by her son Shane C. Wood (Debora) of Burlington, grandson Nash Noble Wood of Portland, Oregon, granddaughter Jordan J. Wood of Burlington and grandson Brent Michael Wood of San Antonio, Texas. Anita will be greatly missed by her many friends and family.
