"Wally" is a retired optometrist and Pacific U graduate (1958). "Taffy", a teacher, also graduated from PU. We have lived in Modesto, CA, since January, 1959. We lived above the Jones', next-door to the Kupferschmid's, in the same apartment bldg, while at Pacific and have many good memories of the Jones' and those times.

Dr Jones was my first eye doctor many years ago. He fitted my sister and I with contacts which was something quite new for that time. He truly was a gentleman and took the time to make a person feel special when he spoke to you. It has been many years since Dr. Jones was my eye doctor, but he never did forget me. My brother(Larry)was in partnership with Dr. Jones. I know how highly Larry regarded him. He was such dear, sweet, kind man who will be missed.

OPTOMETRY'S FINEST - August 9, 2012
Posted: August 9, 2012 | Last Revised: August 9, 2012
I feel so fortunate to have had the chance to get to know Ben as a colleague and work with him in our state association activities. This gave us the opportunity of becoming good friends. When I became President of the COA, Ben was my Vice President and succeeded me as President the following year, so we worked very close together. I always looked to Ben for common sense advice and his "easy going" approach to what seemed like insurmountable challenges. He helped to lead our profession through some threatening times with an extreme air of confidence. I respect him greatly for the person he is.
However, Ben was not all about work - He was allot of fun to be around. One weekend he graciously asked us to be his guests at his home in Burlington. We were treated royally and even escorted to Goodland to enjoy a round of rocky mountain oysters. Even though Nancy and I are Colorado natives, we were never exposed to this particular treat and enjoyed the meal. That is when Ben got this big smile on his face and proceeded to tell us what we had just eaten. After that, we had to have a oouple of stiff drinks. He really got a big kick out of that and never let me forget the look on my face.
A wonderful person - and no surprise to me that he is loved by his family very much. He is missed but his memory and his effect on people will live on.
With Our Love,
Bud and Nancy Bryan

I loved Ben. He gave me a nickname that has followed me since I was 14: Carolina Moon. Every time I saw him he'd call me "Moon."
He was the sweetest, dearest man. I'm glad that he and my own father were friends.

You Are What Survives of You - August 8, 2012
Posted: August 8, 2012 | Last Revised: August 8, 2012
I intended to read this at the service but I'm not sure I would be able to get thru all the words so I thought I would share it here.
"You Are What Survives Of You"
Ben Jones was known by many different names. When he was younger, I'm sure his brothers and sisters call him Benny. His daughters called him dad. His grandchildren called him Pa Pa. His friends called him Ben, Doc, Doctor Ben and Doc Jones. He was also called uncle and cousin. I called him my friend and someone I always looked up to and admired. I will miss him very much and will always hold him and his wonderful spirit in my heart.
I collect quotes and from time to time I have shared them with Nancy my stepsister and Ben's daughter. One that I sent her a few years back was "You are what survives of you". I really like this quote because it makes you think about the meaning. With the passing of my friend Ben last Sunday this quote came to mind and it became very clear to me it's meaning. Just look at what survives Ben Jones - look at his two daughters, Nancy and Mary Lyn and how loving and caring they are - look at their families, Nancy with Bob and Dan with Loran and Mary Lyn with Cliff and Jeff with Tammy - look at McKenna, Kately, Kyron and Brynna - look at Kelly with Tom - look at Tyler, Ryan, Dalton, Trenton and Dustin and let's not forget Lulu, what a special help and friend she was to Ben and Marge. Now look at everyone here. Ben Jones loved this town and I think the town loved him back. He loved being an eye doctor and helping people. I think most of you either had him look at your eyes or you know someone who has. Ben survived two wives Aleta and Marge. Look at both of them and their extended families. He loved them both very much and I know they would both say he was the love of their life. We will all miss him and his gentle and loving spirit. So now I have an answer to my quote and I'm sure Ben's spirit is looking down on everyone here and sees all the gentleness, kindness and love that survives of him. Ben Jones "You are what survives of you"

Namesake - September 3, 1977
Posted: August 8, 2012 | Last Revised: August 8, 2012
I always knew that Ben Jones was my father's (Lester Frazier of Goodland) best friend. They had gone to high school together, and after both being pilots in WWII, they both returned to Goodland and kept our two families close with frequent get-togethers. Ben became our optometrist in Burlington, so I saw him there often also, and then he became the optometrist for my own family of three children.
When I learned in 1977 that I was expecting my third child, I wanted a boy's name, preferably only three letters, to go along with the other two children: Tom and Jan, named for special family members. Thinking of the special times we had known with the Jones family, I quickly chose "Ben." I was surprised when a gift came from the Joneses for our new arrival: a handsome pocket watch called a "Pocket Ben"! Very, very special!
