Obituary of Chester Wieser, Sr
Lifelong Yuma and Kit Carson county resident, Chester Aaron Wieser, Sr. passed away on September 18, 2012 at the Grace Manor Care Center. He was 96 years old.
Chester was born on December 24, 1915 to Joseph Benjamin Wieser and Margaret Alwisha Kinney in Greeley, Nebraska. He was the oldest of two sons born to this union. Their mother passed away of appendicitis in 1919 leaving the two sons to be raised by grandparents and special aunts, Susie and Edna. In 1923 his father married Mary Buchanan and the family settled near Hale, Colorado. Chester left home at an early age and worked at various jobs for room and board.
He met Ruth Alvina Hartman at a dance in the Hale area and married her November 12, 1936 in Bushnell, Nebraska. To this union five children were born; Connie, Joyce, Chester Jr., Roger and Dean.
Chester and Ruth worked for farmers and ranchers and rented ground until some land came up for sale southwest of Idalia, Colorado. There they lived and raised their family adding to their farm every chance he had until they retired and moved to Burlington, Colorado in 1981. He continued to help out on the farm and drive cars for Vince's, Wayne Clark and other dealerships in the area. Chester and Ruth will always be remembered for their love of dancing.
Chester loved his animals! He always had a horse and a dog, raised beef cattle, dairy cows, hogs, sheep and chickens. When he moved to town he made sure all the neighborhood cats were well fed. Chester was a member of St. John United Church of Christ near Idalia and supported community organizations in many ways.
Chester is preceded in death by his parents, his wife, one brother; Willard Wieser, two daughters; Joyce Elaine and Connie Ilene, one half sister; June Armknecht, and four half brothers; Ben Wieser, Danny Wieser, Dale Wieser and Larry Wieser.
He is survived by his sons; Chester Wieser and wife Judy of Kirk, Roger Wieser and wife Trudi of Kirk, and Dean Wieser and wife Susan of Burlington. Also surviving him are one half brother; Jack Wieser and wife Jill of Safford, Arizona, one half sister; Lois Sutherland of Des Moines, Iowa, two half sister-in-laws; Myrtice Wieser of San Diego, California, Betty Wieser of Newland, North Carolina, seven grandchildren, nine great grandchildren.
