Obituary of Myrna Hertneky

Myrna Kathryn Hertneky, age 75 of Ramah, Colorado passed away Thursday, December 6, 2012 at the St. Francis Medical Center in Colorado Springs, Colorado. She was born May 29, 1937 in Utica, Kansas the daughter of William H. and Mildred Kathryn (Litson) Michel. Myrna attended Simla High School where she met the love of her life, Kenneth Hertneky. On December 10, 1953, they were united in marriage. Myrna and Kenneth shared four days shy of 59 years of married life. To this union they shared five children, Kathryn, William, Peggy, Christian and Betty. Myrna enjoyed reading, needlework and did an excellent job of making ‘lists’ to manage their farm, ranch and dairy. Her efforts to improve the land and encourage soil conservation led to the farm being designated the 2004 Outstanding Colorado Conservationist Ranch of the Year. She also loved traveling with Kenny to all fifty states and numerous countries, including Switzerland, Jamaica, New Zealand and Chile. Most of all, Myrna loved spending time with her family, enjoyed being ‘Baba’ for her grandchildren. She was the foundation rock of the family, only a phone call away from solving everyone’s problems. Always available, always with an open ear, Myrna provided unending support for her entire family. We will miss her dearly. She enjoyed the camaraderie of the local card party group, which met monthly for the last 39 years. She was a member of the Calhan Ministerial Alliance, the Thunderbird Home Extension Club, the Good Samaritan Center Advisory Board, St. Michael’s Parish Council, the Simla PTA and a leader in her kids’ 4-H Club. Myrna will miss the community of friends that she loved so much and her presence will never be forgotten. Her warm spirit and her loving heart will continue on in her family and friends forever.
