Obituary of Fern Monks
Fern Arlene Monks, 76, of Limon, CO passed away on January 9, 2013 in Denver, CO with her family at her side.
One of twelve children, Fern was born on May 20, 1936 to Harry Earl and Mary May (Shaw) Watson in Matheson, CO. She graduated from Simla High School in 1954.
She married Donald Monks in 1984 and they made their home in Limon.
Fern took great pleasure working in their yard always planting a variety of flowers and vegetables in the spring. Their yard was full of color in the summer and envied by many. Fern collected dolls, anything with a hummingbird on it, and always had a puzzle going on the card table when it was too cold to be outside. She was an avid fan of each major Denver sports team. She rarely missed a Broncos, Nuggets or Avalanche game on TV. Don and she looked forward to Limons Homecoming. It was an event they enjoyed preparing for and looked forward to seeing and entertaining local and out of town friends. Her family was everything to her and she always made it an occasion no matter who came to visit. In recent years, occasionally Fern could be seen sitting on the bench outside the Post Office having a conversation with someone after her walk to get her mail. She did enjoy these visits.
Fern was preceded in death by her parents, husband Don, siblings; Calvin, Harry, Margaret, Marvin Ray, Betty Lou, Donald, Evelyn, June, sister-in-law Fredrica Watson and brother-in-law Pete Vasquez.
Fern is survived by her sons; Rodney (Micheli) Watson of Strasburg CO, and Wesley Watson of Sterling CO, grandchildren Kenneth (Colette) Watson, Andrew Watson both of Clearwater KS, and great grandchildren; Gage and Kale Watson. Fern is also survived by a brother Ronald (Marge) Watson of Ottumwa IA, Julia Johnson and Dick Lyons of Limon CO, Duane (Irene) Monks, Creede CO, Allen (Susie) Monks, Annandale NJ, and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, and dear friends.
