Obituary of Helen Moss

Helen F. Moss was born on January 7, 1921, to Charles and Opal Jackson, north of Flagler on the old Huntley place. Helen had five sisters; Anna, Margaret, Ruth, Nell, Dorothy, and one brother, Cecil. She lived her entire life in Flagler except for the time she was with her husband in Texas during WW II. Helen graduated from Flagler High School in 1939 and was very active in girls’ basketball. Shortly after graduating from Flagler High School, she married her high school sweetheart, Donald B. Moss. To this union two boys, Blaine Kent, and Donald Charles, were born. Helen was a housewife until she and Don went into business along old Highway 24, later Interstate 70. She continued to work the business after Don passed away and retired due to declining health. During her early years, she was active in girls’ athletic and academic and music studies. She had a beautiful voice and when she was younger, sang at many weddings and funerals. She was thrilled to go to New York City to see the opera at Carnegie Hall. She was active in the American Auxiliary and was a member of many pitch and pinochle clubs and had a love for bowling. Her beloved Denver Broncos brought her great joy and she loved defending them to the members of her family who were Oakland Raider fans. Helen loved her work at Don’s Liquor and deeply appreciated her many friends who stopped in to chat. She spent many, many hours with her sister-in-law, Zenelda Heid, playing cards, talking, traveling, fishing and many other activities. She was the kindest, most considerate of people and after her grandkids and great grandkids, friends and friendships were of the utmost value to her. Throughout the years she was blessed with grandchildren and great grandchildren and took joy in their accomplishments and successes. Helen is survived by her sons, Blaine and wife Sandra Kossler, of California and D.C. and Carol of Flagler, CO lots of grandchildren and great grandchildren, Her grandchildren include Dallas Moss, and Kimberlee Castro of California, Doug Moss (Sandy) from Fowler, Colorado, and Saundra (Stacey) Moss, of Buena Vista, Colorado. Great grandchildren were Sabreena Moss, Blaine Kenneth Moss, Champ Moss, Chandler Castro, Chase Castro, John Chapman Moss, Morgan Moss, Bethany Moss, Lindsey Moss, Shea Moss, Seth Moss, Jayci Jo Hollenbaugh, Celby Hollenbaugh, and a host of nieces and nephews. Helen passed away happy and peacefully surrounded by her family and friends on Sunday, January 13, 2013.
