Obituary of Margaret Ackerman

Longtime, Cheyenne Wells, Colorado resident, Margaret Clarice Ackerman, passed away on January 25, 2013 at the Memorial Hospital in Colorado Springs, Colorado. She was 100 years old. Margaret was born March 21, 1912 in Great Bend, Kansas to Tom and Etta (Wilson) Bennett. She was one of two children. She attended school in Great Bend and graduated in 1928 at the age of 16. Margaret then moved to Manhattan, Kansas to attend Kansas State College to be a teacher. This is where she met her husband Jack Ackerman. They married on August 2, 1932 in Larned, Kansas. To this union six children were born; Don, Tom, Jean, Kay, Steve and Carol. They were married for 66 years. Margaret’s hobbies were crafts, judging at the fair for homemaking and clothes, 4-H leader for many years, playing Bridge, an active member of the Red Hat Tumbleweeds and E.H.U, traveling and dancing. She also loved sweets and her dogs. She did in home living with foreign exchange students, her grandsons and granddaughters. She was a member of the Sacred Heart Catholic Church and the Altar Society. Margaret was preceded in death by her parents, Thomas and Etta Bennett, her husband, Jack, one son Steve Ackerman, one brother Ernie Bennett and his wife Vesta, and three grandchildren. Left to cherish her memories are her children; Don Ackerman and wife Peggy of San Saba, Texas, Tom Ackerman and wife Liz of Cheyenne Wells, Colorado, Jean Ackerman and wife Ina Jeanne of Jamaca Beach, Texas, Kay Lewis, Carol Ackerman both of Cheyenne Wells, Colorado, 15 grandchildren, 31 great grandchildren and 11 great great grandchildren.
