Obituary of Marie Bartlett

Longtime Burlington resident, Ellen “Marie” Bartlett, age 77, left this earth to live in her heavenly home, Sunday February 17th, 2013 in Burlington. Marie was born March 8th, 1935 in Burlington, Co. to Jens Jensen and Lena “Blackburn” Jensen. She attended schools in Burlington, Co. and Goodland, Ks. and went on to acquire her GED. She was united in marriage to James “Jim” Kay Bartlett Jr. on March 8th, 1950 at his parent’s family farm in Ruleton, Ks. To this union, they were blessed with 6 children; Gwenn, Joyce, Lynn, Christian, Pamela, and Kaye. She worked through the years as a mother, homemaker, and farmwife, including milking, delivering fresh cream to the creamery and 50 dozen eggs a week to a restaurant in Goodland, Ks. She also drove tractor, grain trucks and hauled meals to the field daily from planting time through harvest, all while caring for her children & home. She was an active member of the Methodist church in Kanorado for many years before moving to Burlington. Marie enjoyed being a 4-H leader for various projects in the Grant Boosters 4-H Club. She was also involved in the Home Extension Club contributing to various community projects. After moving to Burlington in 1968, Marie did maid service at a local motel, and kept up the ladies lounge. She obtained full time employment at Sav-U supermarket for a number of years before becoming a city office employee, being promoted to deputy city clerk. She, as well as her father, faithfully served the city for over 25 years. After retiring from the city, she enjoyed her quilting, sewing and machine embroidery up until her failing health prevented her from doing it any longer. Marie was baptized on March 8th, 1981 and remained an active member of the Burlington Christian Church. Marie is preceded in death by her husband James K. Bartlett, Jr. daughter, Kaye Ellen Williams, son Chris Bartlett, her parents Jens C. Jensen, Lena Jensen (Schaffer), brothers, Bob & Kenneth Jensen, father and mother-in-law, James Kay Bartlett Sr., Ruth Bartlett (Asher), sisters-in-law, Janice Lee and Donna King, and a son-in-law Don Luther. Those left to cherish her memory are, her children, Gwenn Kleweno of Burlington, Co., Joyce & husband Dennis Weaver of Holyoke, Co., Lynn Bartlett of Burlington, Co., & Pamela Luther of Greeley, Co.. Grandchildren are, Jessica & husband Michael Wolf of Kanorado, Ks., Ginger Kleweno of Norfolk, Va., Laura Lee & husband Jeff Richards of Idalia, Co., RJ & wife Abby Kleweno of Manor, Tx., Tracy & Jerry Steggs of Holyoke, Co., Mindy & husband Brad Richards of Idalia, Co., T.J. & wife Shelia Weaver of Tribune, Ks., Rebecca Weaver of Holyoke, Co., Heather Finley of Peyton, Co., Joshua & wife Chastity Finley of Weldona, Co., Karen Baca of Greeley, Co., and Jerimy & wife Sarrah Williams of Brunswick, Me.. Great grandchildren include, Ethan, Emily, Ella Wolf, Bryce & Bently Richards, Braxton Kleweno, J.C., Parker, Reese & Bo Steggs, Tyson, Trey, Tanner Richards, Elissa Giles, Kianna, Christa & Cole Sandoval, Hayden Houser, Logan, Mikayla & AlixiaKaye Williams. Marie will be greatly missed by her family and many special friends.
