Obituary of Alice Elliott

Alice Gertrude (Moldenhauer) Elliott was born September 3, 1913 on her parents Gustav and Clara Moldenhauer’s homestead. She had two brothers, Edward and Alan, and one sister Mabel, all born in the country home. She attended the Ransey Country School, graduating from the 8th grade then attended the Genoa High School graduating in 1934. Alice was baptized, confirmed at Trinity Lutheran Church on September 7, 1930 and remained a member of Trinity Lutheran Church. She was also a member of the American Legion Auxiliary in Genoa for 66 years. On May 21, 1944 she married Thelbert (Bud) Elliott who had returned from overseas after 2 ½ years with the army in Puerto Rico. They lived in Denver where Bud was stationed with the M.P.’s until December 1945 when he was honorably discharged from the service. They moved to Hugo where Bud was employed by the Union Pacific Railroad. They later worked on two different farms, they then moved to Limon in April 1950 when Bud was employed by Town Talk Bread Company for 13 years. In 1952 they bought their own home which they remodeled and where they lived. Her husband bought a Music Route which they owned for 13 years. In April 1968 they bought 4 lots and built the car wash in east Limon, which they also owned for about 13 years. In 1977 they bought a little farm 18 miles southwest of Limon which they enjoyed remodeling. Bud bought cattle in the spring and sold in the fall. They raised a big garden and had fun during the summer out on their “ranch” because of Bud’s declining health they sold the farm in October 1988. He passed away November 9, 1988. Alice and Bud loved to travel and visited all 50 States and Capitals. Bud enjoyed trapshooting and they went to Arizona each January for the “Winter Chain” of Trapshooting living in their 5th Wheel Trailer for 2 months. Alice’s hobbies were preserving history by making many Scrap Books also making many for the family. She also compiled the Martin History Book. She was very meticulous and kept notes pertaining to what was going on in her life as well as what was going on around the world. If you had a question about important dates and happenings you could call Alice and she could look it up in her notes. Alice loved the country and enjoyed the people in her life and will be remembered for her honesty and the many things she contributed to. She was a very generous person giving many gifts and money to her family relatives and the Church. Alice entered the Lincoln Community Nursing Home on June 5, 2008 where she remained until her passing on July 9, 2013. Alice was preceded in death by her parents, her beloved husband Bud, two nieces, two brothers, her sister, Mabel and husband Frank Storrs, and other relatives and friends that she leaves to morn her death.
