Dear Sandy,
I am so sorry for your loss. The life legacy written about Royce is exactly how I remember him. As a teenager I spent my summers on the farm of my aunt & uncle, Dale and Mildred Saffer. My brothers and I knew Royce from Bethel church and will remember him fondly.

I was so sorry to hear about Royce. I remember him from church when my dad, Fred Crawford, was the minister there. He was always ready with a joke or a smile or some words of encouragement. The world is a lesser place without him in it. May you find peace and comfort at this difficult time.

May Sandy, the wife of Royce & family accept my deep sympathy for your loss. I have had great comfort from the scriptures as I see from Royce's ob that he did as well. Two especially encouraging. Revelation 21:3,4 tells us that pain, mourning & even death will be done away with. Isaiah 25:8 shows that death will be swallowed up forever & the tears from all faces will be wiped away."Jehovah himself has spoken it". (New World Translation) Until John 5:28,29 is fulfilled may these words also bring you the hope of seeing your loved one, Royce again.

Sandy--What an exciting day when you and Royce met, the special announcement of your engagement day and special day when you asked me to play for your wedding. We saw many happy days that God blessed you with together, and the blessed memories that you will have in the future. Also the joy it brought to Gail when you came into the family. With our deepest sympathy for you, Sandy and Gail, and your whole family.

Sandy,
I am so sorry to hear of your husband's passing. Our fellow classmate, Brenda Newbanks Butcher, let me know about this tragedy. She also mentioned how very happy Royce and you were together. I can tell from the comments here that Royce was a great man and that he will be greatly missed. God bless you, Sandy. I'm very sorry to hear of your loss. May your cherished memories of your beloved Royce remain forever bright. I know he loved you here on Earth and I'm sure he's loving you even more from Heaven! Much love to you...

Royce was always dependable with so many things. He enjoyed helping our kids when they were younger with skating, basketball, and 4-H meetings and projects. Ralph has known Royce all of his life. We enjoyed having Royce and Gail over different times for eating a meal and just visiting. We will miss seeing Royce. Our prayers are with you, Sandy, and with you, Gail, at this difficult time. We will miss the "Ah,O, here comes trouble!!"

I'm Johnita Reed's husband. She was a 1st cousin to Royce. I remember him from family get-togethers in Kansas many years ago when he was rather young. He would accompany his parents on their visits. I only saw him 2 or 3 times but remember him to be very friendly and well-mannered. My condolences to his family.

Rollerskating at Beth-el Church - May 25, 2013
Posted: August 7, 2013 | Last Revised: August 7, 2013
My Last Fun Memory of Royce
Because Royce enjoyed having fun, Royce enjoyed roller skating, Royce enjoyed life, so our family has many fun memories of Royce Borden attending family and community events.
ANYTIME our family planned a party the first idea was usually call Beth-el Church, check if their annex building was available for a skating party. {For those who are not familiar with our small town / country "goings on".} This building is technically called a quanset type building. The outside is shaped in an arch, covered in metal. The inside has a fairly high ceiling, with wooden plank flooring, the floor is similar to the old roller rinks that some of us grew up with as kids. To the left of the front door are shelves of old-fashioned roller skates with the sizes written on them. We are talking OLD FASHIONED ones. They have LOTS of skates in EVERY size. There are wooden benches lining the walls that go to the back of the building. At the right back wall are metal folding chairs which are folded up neatly waiting for the next group to use. At the back wall center is the open door into the kitchen. The kitchen is fairly big, with a couple of cooking stoves, lots of cabinets, counters, refrigerators and a 'pass through counter' for the cooks to hand out food for a buffet type meal.
Royce is (present tense)a member of the Beth-el Church which owns the building. Royce also worked with my husband, so usually we went to Royce or called members of Beth-el Church to rent the building.
The last party was a birthday party for one of our granddaughters. In attendance to our 'little' skating party were 8 grandchildren & friends, our 5 teenagers (still at home), also 3 of our adult children with spouses.
Typically, Royce & Sandy show up first. They unlock doors and get the place ready for us. Typically, Royce has his skates on & is already skating before we even arrive. I arrive late with my 'entourage'. The CD player is plugged in & the 'special' music my daughters had put together was blaring. Little ones were being measured and skates on & getting 'laced' up. Since there are usually more of 'them' (little ones) than 'us'. Everyone is busy, food & gifts are being carried in, birthday decorations going up. The fun has already begun, "LET'S MAKE SOME MEMORIES"!!!
Royce is everywhere, helping little ones, finding skates, talking, laughing, sharing jokes, racing big guys, playing with little ones, on with the skates, off with the skates, let's skate some more, lace the skates up, untie the skates.....THAT was Royce.{sometimes with more patience than the parents}
Throughout the 2 hours of fun & games Royce is playing just like all the kids, big & little. He holds the limbo stick, picks up little ones off the floor, he's behind little ones holding them up, keeping them balanced while they find their footing. Sandy is the perfect helper to Royce, she's got babies in her arms, on her lap, helping with party decorations, she is pouring punch, serving food, helping little ones to carry their plates; etc....
The party finally comes to an end, off with the skates one last time, Royce is at the shelf pairing skates together, putting them on the shelf, finding lost shoes, putting up folding chairs, taking down tables, sweeping the floor with skates on. Royce tells us to go on home, he'll do the rest, shut the door & lock it up. THAT was Royce. The first one there, the last one to leave, we could trust him to lock it up.
As the Pilgrim family gathered Saturday night, we began talking about this last party; then other stories, other parties. As we looked back, trying to remember, all the parties, the events, graduations, weddings, caroling, 4-H events, parades, USPS functions.....Royce was there and the list was long.
