Obituary of John Foos, Jr
John Foos passed away on August 27, 2013 in Burlington, Colorado. He was 96 years old.
John was born on October 16, 1916 in Windsor, Colorado to John and Katherine (Miller) Foos. They moved to Wheatland, Wyoming when John was a young boy where they were engaged in farming. He attended school in Wheatland.
On June 2, 1940 he and Twyla L. Koons were united in marriage. John and Twyla were married for over 71 years until her passing on October 27, 2011. To this union two children were born, James Loyd Foos and Linda Kay Foos.
He worked on the railroad for a short time and briefly in California before farming drew him back to Wheatland. He farmed in Wheatland and also fattened lambs which topped the market many times in Denver. In 1970 they moved to Burlington, Colorado and farmed until he retired. After retiring from farming he had a used machinery business which he maintained until May 2013.
In Wheatland he was a member of The Congregational Church. He served as head usher and Trustee for many years. He received Great Western High Ten awards in both Wyoming and Colorado. He bowled in Wheatland and Burlington. John was a member of the Burlington Rotary Club. His interests were reading, looking at, and visiting about farming and machinery.
Family left to remember him is a son: James (Kathy) Foos, Burlington, Colorado, daughter: Linda Foos, Bayard, Nebraska. Grandchildren: James Loyd Foos, Jr., Santa Fe, New Mexico, Steven Mark (Peggy) Foos, Burlington, Colorado, and Cynthia Ann Foos, Chicago, Illinois. Great-Grandchildren: Nathan James Foos, Trevor David Foos, and Ericka Katelyn Foos (children of Mark and Peggy), Burlington, Colorado. Sisters: Virginia Preuit, Rupert, Idaho, Betty (George) Weidenbach, Cheyenne, Wyoming and many nieces and nephews.
Preceding him in death were his parents, wife Twyla, sisters: Leah (Fred) Schott, Emma Foos, Helen (Julius) Gaab, and brother Edward (Marie) Foos, brother-in-law Chester Preuit and niece Marilyn Sylvester.
