I would like to offer my condolences to the Payne family. 78 years is quite an accomplishment and I know she has left her friends and family with many precious memories. Hopefully this scripture will give you comfort because God is promising us he will do away with man's worst enemy, death. This is found for us at Rev. 21: 3,4; "With that I heard a loud voice from the throne say: "Look! The tent of God is with mankind, and he will reside with them, and they will be his people. "And God himself will be with them." And he will wipe out every tear from their eyes, and death will be no more, neither will mourning nor outcry nor pain be anymore.") God's kingdom that Jesus taught us to pray for at Matthew 6: 9, 10 will bring about these wonderful promises including the resurrection. John 6: 40 tells us: "For this is the will of my Father, that everyone who recognizes the Son and exercises faith in him should have everlasting life, and I will resurrect him on the last day." This is a wonderful promise made to us by our heavenly father and I pray it brings you comfort and hope. I offer my sincere condolences to the family.

Dear Grandma,
Eventhough I only got to know you for 2 weeks last summer I instantly felt so welcomed and loved. In that short amount of time you became my American grandmother. I miss you and all of the other family and I wish I could have seen you again. Thank you so much for being like my grandmother and making last summer so amazing. I love you and I will miss you so much. Your German granddaughter Lena

Memories from across the ocean
Posted: May 31, 2016 | Last Revised: May 31, 2016
My dear American family,
although I am thousands of miles away right now, I feel so close to you sitting at my desk and looking at photos of the times I got to spend with Mom, remembering all the love she gave me and how much fun we had. Axel and I are so thankful for the precious time we got to spend with Mom just a few weeks ago! How lucky we were to decide to come to Mom and Dad's 60th wedding anniversary! This way the memories are so vivid! Who is going to call me "honey" or "sweetheart", which felt so good or give Axel a hard time about his breakfast muffins anymore? "Axel, you are so crazy!" Mom would say with her special laughter.
How great it is to be part of this wonderful family, which Mom was so proud of! Mom and Dad opened their home and hearts for me in 1984/1985, when I came into the Payne family as an exchange student. For me as a city girl from Hamburg, Germany, it was a totally new experience to stay on a farm far away from the next town. Mom was the best host mother of all! She made me feel special and welcome.
I came back to vist with my husband-to-be in 1997, walked into the door and ... instantly felt I hadn't been away at all! In 1998 Mom and Dad came to celebrate our wedding with us in Dresden, Germany, and we got the chance to show them some parts of our home country. What a special honeymoon! Last year our daughter Lena was an exchange student in Indiana and she spent a week in Colorado. Although she stayed such a short time, this visit was very special to her. She fell in love with the farm, the family and - of course - her wonderful American grandmother!
Mom truly was one of the most optimistic and forward looking person I know. She made the best out of every situation, loved her life and her family and was proud of hers and Dad achievements in life.
We know in a few hours you will have to say goodbye and this is going to be so sad. We will be right there with you in our thoughts!! Lena and Mattis, my parents Hiltrud and Herbert and my sister Carolin send their sympathy and love, too!
Goodbye Mom! Love you so much! Katrin and Axel

Barbara always opend her heart and arms to me and my family throughout my life. For several summers, I hoed pnto beans for her and Robert and she always took great care of us. She knew chocolate was not my favorite, so she made snacks without it just for me many times. She also tried to teach me to make roses for cakes after feeding us supper after our day of hoeing ended. Your loving hugs of greeting that have always been there for me will be greatly missed. Deepest sympathy to robert and the entire family. Barbara you will be missed more than words can say.
