Obituary of Helen Turecek

Helen Pearl Turecek was born in the Kiowa area of Roggen, Colorado on July 14, 1926 to William and Etta Sirios. She entered into eternal rest on May 26, 2016 at Sierra Rehabilitation & Care Community in Lakewood. Helen grew up on the family farm with her seven brothers, John, Paul, Louis, Bill, James, Albert, Eddie, and five sisters Irma, Marge, Ruth, Ann and Dorothy. She attended Kiowa grade school and then transferred to Roggen High School. She met Johnny Turecek at a dance at the Kiowa Grange Hall and they were married on September 3, 1944 in Las Vegas, Nevada while he served in the Air Force. They lived in Salina, Kansas until he was discharged at which time they moved back to the Hudson area. In 1949, Johnny and Helen moved to Deer Trail. They had four children Colleen, Carol, Keven and David. The family farmed and ranched in both the Deer Trail and Agate areas. They built and operated multiple businesses in Deer Trail during their 56 years of marriage. Each one - a grain elevator, a restaurant and gift shop, a full-service gas station, and a liquor store – bore the name Awful John’s. Helen was actively involved in every business. In the mid-80’s, the family operated an AM radio station, KTMG, and Helen enjoyed her time on the air doing the weekday recipe show. With all of this activity taking place in her own yard, Helen still found the time to make sure the family gathered around the kitchen table for the noon meal. For Helen, family was everything. Helen was preceded in death by her parents, William and Etta, husband, Johnny, brothers - John, Paul, Louis, Bill, James and Albert, sisters - Irma, Marge, Ruth, and Ann, son-in-law, Ray Addleman, daughters, Colleen Martin and Carol Addleman, and great-great-grandson, Tanner Isaac Sauer. She is survived by one brother, Eddie (Shirley) Sirios, and one sister, Dorothy (Ray) Yeager, and one sister-in-law, Helen Sirios, sons Keven (Sandra) and David (Janelle), eleven grandchildren, sixteen great grandchildren and three great great grandchildren. Helen was a kind and loving mother, grandmother, sister, aunt and will be dearly missed. Her faith in God was evident to anyone who met Helen and her family holds tight to the promise that we will see her again one day in Heaven.
