May I offer my sincere condolences. May your hearts find comfort in God's Word where it states: "He will swallow up death forever, and the Lord will wipe the tears from all faces." (Isaiah 25:8) May your loved one awaken to a world where there will be peace, no sickness (Isaiah 33:24), and no more troubles (Revelation 21:4) throughout eternity (Psalm 37:29). May your hearts find comfort and hope in God's Word, family, friends and good memories at this time. My deepest sympathy to you.

My heart skipped a beat when I read of the tragic accident that took Mike! I went to school with Mike and we actually walked graduation together. It's hard to believe he is gone...but not for long, because the memories you all keep close in your heart will keep him always with you. Some days you many not remember the sound of his voice or his laugh, but something will happen and he will be right there with you. He will be missed, but he was well loved and respected. I was there for the service and it was just lovely and quite touching. I will continue to keep you all in our thoughts and prayers! Timi and Jim Higdon

So sorry to hear of Mike's passing. Prayers of comfort and peace coming your way. He was the reason I could name my firstborn Michael - such fond memories. In highschool, an upper classman that cared and had a quick laugh, ornery, but always had your back. I was so glad to get reacquainted a bit at the basketball playoffs here in Pueblo. He even had the sense (like me) to marry an amazing Brenda! And such a proud Dad!

The Ties that Bind
Posted: October 1, 2014 | Last Revised: October 1, 2014
For Michael, Tyson, Whitney, Laci and Gavin Many years ago your father and I were the best of friends. We shared time together playing football in the park, sleep over parties, snow and water skiing, sailing and riding with your Grandfather aboard "nine-o-four-six-niner-yankee". We were dreamers who set lofty goals. One was to be the champion of champions. We were determined that we would be the epitome of Badger football champs. As each year passed our passion to achieve our goal became more manifest and the lessons taught to us on how to reach that pinnacle more ingrained in our very fabric. Character, courage, commitment, resolve. We absorbed all like a sponge to water. On a chilly autumn afternoon long ago our destiny lay before us for the taking but alas, it slipped through our grasp - forever lost. We retreated, our grief inconsolable. Our pain threatened to drown us by our own tears. I stood facing your father and shared then what I would believe much later as a truly defining moment in our lives. The shout-out "take a knee" rang throughout the room and as one we did. I reached out and took your fathers hand in mine soon joined by others and together we recited "The Lords Prayer": Our father, which art in heaven, hallowed be thy name. Thy kingdom come. Thy will be done on earth, as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread. And forgive us our trespasses as we forgive those who trespass against us. And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil. For thine is the kingdom, the power and the glory for ever. Amen. Together we rose to our feet leaving upon the floor our grief and moved forward. You see your father and I, as well as many others that day, did not leave behind those elements of character that shaped our persona. We carried them forward and when faced with challenges and adversity they drive our actions. When we've failed they compel us to get up again and again. I've no doubt that he has shared them with you. His life story abounds with those strengths for they are the foundation of leadership and are writ large as his legacy. You - fine son's and daughter's - are that legacy.

A True Mentor - September 30, 2014
Posted: September 30, 2014 | Last Revised: September 30, 2014
I knew Mike was a good man just from being around him when I would visit with Brenda, but there was a special time when he really touched our family's life. When my son Kasey was a senior Byers was playing Limon in football. When Limon and Byers meet it was always considered a big game and rivalries. Before the game started Kasey was in the gym and Mike called Kasey over to him. Mike asked Kasey where he was planning on going to college and if he was going to play football at the next level. Kasey's dream was to play football but didn't have any recruiters contacting him. When he told Mike that Mike was surprised and complemented Kasey of what a good player he was. He told Kasey that he had some contacts with college coaches and he would contact them. Kasey was so filled with joy and was just humbled that Mike took the time to talk with Kasey and share with him the fact that he thought Kasey was a good athlete, and that he was willing to help him, not to mention that this was all before the "Big Game".
Mike was a man of his word; a few weeks later Kasey did hear from a college coach; he told Kasey that Mike Liggett contacted him and told him about his football skills. As a family we were all thankful to Mike for helping us get things rolling; as this was our first experience of college recruiting. My son Kasey will never forget that day and the time Mike took to talk to a kid that was on the opposing team. A few months later when I was telling Brenda about how thankful Kasey was Brenda told me that Mike took some of those college coaches to Limon's film room and showed them file of Kasey when Byers played Limon. What a wonderful loving Man to not only help the kids in his own community but to help every kid.
Mike had a God Given Gift to be a mentor to every child he came in contact with. It was only a few years later that he was doing the same thing for our younger son Jared. Jared was so honored when Mike called him one summer and asked if he would play on his summer baseball team. Mike will always be in the hearts of many young adults that he coached. The time and dedication he made for every kid will never be forgotten.
I have no doubt in my mind that there are many stories like this. I'm so saddened his life was taken too soon, if we would all treat people the way Mike treated everyone it would for sure be a more pleasant world. I'm Praying God wraps his loving arms around his family, and as the years go by may his memory bring every hurting soul he touched a heart of happiness. His Legacy will NEVER Die.
May God Bless you all in your Sorrow.
Love
Lisa Martin
