Obituary of Stanley Stewart
Stanley Dean Stewart passed away quietly at his home in Burlington, Colorado on Friday, October 31st, 2014, at the age of 61.
Stanley is predeceased by his parents, Howard E. Stewart and Grace Eileen (Farwell) Stewart.
Stan graduated from Burlington High School in 1971 and went to North-Western Kansas Vocational Technical School and earned a degree in Carpentry. He graduated with honors at the top of his class.
Stan married his high school sweet heart, Nancy (Hubbell) Stewart and to this union four daughters were born.
Stan worked at a number of different jobs, but no matter where his career took him, he worked hard and enjoyed what he was doing. He especially enjoyed working for Kit Carson County as the Grounds and Building director. He loved working outdoors, and liked to keep things running efficiently, his biggest challenge was keeping the old elevator running in tip-top shape. He loved working with all the 4-H kids at the annual Kit Carson County Fair. Stan was responsible for adding new updated automated phone systems to the Courthouse so we could actually transfer calls and put our customers on hold.
He enjoyed tinkering, farming, black-powder shooting sports, bowling, being on the Housing Authority Board, and especially the different church committees and boards he served on. He was learning to enjoy the new technology of e-mail, texting and Skype.
Stan loved living in our small rural community. He was a people person. He enjoyed helping others, especially catering to the elderly, shoveling walks, helping them set up their computers or working on phone problems, fixing broken garage doors or just visiting, another thing he did very well. He just loved to visit. He was generous with his time. He never knew a stranger. He was the first one in line if you needed help.
Stans illness was a life changing event. He had a long uphill battle but he kept moving forward. He climbed the mountain of health challenges and faced them with faith rather than fear. He knew if he kept moving forward he could scale that mountain and he was more than willing to make the climb. He had faith that exceeded the size of a mustard seed and he knew that he could move that mountain. He was an inspiration to all of us who knew him. We are pretty sure he earned his wings, although his Halo may be a little tipped, he never lost his faith or his smile.
Stan is survived by his wife of 44 years, Nancy. Daughters, Jennifer (Roy) Herrell; Stacie (Dr. James) Perez; Rebecca (Jerardo) Pimentel; and Jill (Aaron) Thew. Other survivors include Sister, Anita Stewart; Brother, Donald Stewart; Sister, Ruth (James) Elliott. Eleven Grandchildren and Eight Great Grandchildren, and numerous family members and friends.
