Obituary of Michael L Goins
Michael L. Goins was born on July 5, 1959, in Springfield, MO. He was killed in an MVA with a semi-trailer during high winds on Wednesday March 23rd.
Mike entered the US Air Force in 1977 and was honorably discharged 20 years later. While on active duty, he married Denise A. Keyes on July 2, 1978, and remained married until his death, March 23, 2022.
He was preceded in death by his infant son, Benjamin Michael Goins on February 20, 1980. His father, Boyce Elzie Goins, on August 25, 1991, and his nephew, Joseph Peters, Special Agent Sgt. on October 5, 2013.
He is survived by his mother, Jeanette Bettiga, his brother, Phillip Hudson, his sister, Debbie Hudson Peters, and her husband Dennis Peters. He is survived by his sister, Melanie Goins Cook, and her husband, Mark Cook. He is survived by his brother-in-law, Christopher Keyes, his mother- and father-in-law Marjorie and Dennie Keyes, and his wife, Denise A.K. Goins.
While on active duty, he was sent to college by the USAF through the Bootstrap Program. He attended the University of Maryland where he earned his bachelor's degree in computer science then returned to active duty in the USAF. Several years later, he attended the University of Oklahoma, Remote and received his master's degree in human services. Upon his return to the United States, he returned to school to earn his Master of Divinity at Wesley University. When he relocated to Colorado in 2006, he transferred to Iliff where he was assigned to work an internship with Yonghui McDonald, chaplain for the Adams County Detention Center and helped her grow the Transformation Project Prison Ministry (TPPM) to the international nonprofit organization it is today.
After he was discharged from the USAF, he worked for a series of IT companies to include: Compaq, Hewlett-Packard and several others. As various divisions of his employment were bought by different companies. He was employed by them for more than 22 years. He resigned his position with HP and went to work for another federal contractor who was bought by several larger companies. He left in good standing then began working for Net Services as a senior IT Consultant on January 6, 2019.
His volunteer work included Baltimore-Annapolis District Men’s Ministry leader, administrative council president, youth group leader, among other ministries through Magothy U.Me. Church. When he moved to Colorado, he joined Saron Lutheran Church in Strasburg, CO and attended the Living Springs Cowboy Church in Byers, CO. He was very active in both churches helping wherever he could. He was the co-director of the TPPM, as well as the treasurer.
