Obituary of Alex V. Middlemist

Alex Middlemist passed away on the evening of February 21, 2022 at the age of 71. Alex was born in Fort Morgan, Colorado on July 17, 1950. He attended school in Brush where he met and later married his high school Sweetheart, Theresa Kay, on September 10, 1969 and had three children. Alex was a devoted husband and father. He enjoyed coaching his kids little league, and being a leader of their 4-H clubs. He also had several hobbies such as hunting, fishing, camping, gambling, playing baseball himself, bowling, woodworking and making several beautiful pieces of furniture. He was also an active member of the Jaycees and an EMT in Byers for several years. Alex loved taking his dog, Squirt, for rides in his truck several times a day. We were never sure if the rides were really for Squirt or for him. Alex enjoyed knocking on the wall from inside the house anytime someone would arrive at the door. Anyone that was familiar with this routine would knock back from the outside. And when any one of his children or grandchildren would leave, the common phrase was “glad you got to see me”, which was always followed by “gladder you got to see me”. It was always a contest as to who could say it first. Some of his jobs included Bud’s Engine Service as a mechanic, giving 20 years to Colorado Interstate Gas and retiring from E-470 after 15 years in 2017. Alex is survived by his beloved wife Theresa, daughter Lisa (Mike) Kauffman, son Jeremy (Leslie) Middlemist, son Eric (Tanya) Middlemist, 9 grandchildren; Cody, Corey, Kelsi, Brian, Caleb, Toby, Logan, Jordan and Tyler, great granddaughters Paisley and Courtney, who were all the lights of his life. He anxiously was awaiting the birth of a new great grandson, Weston any day. He is also survived by his sister Ruby Jaeger, brother Dayton Middlemist and sister Carol (Phil) Angel. Alex took great pride in his family and was always ready to help a family member or friend when called upon. He was preceded in death by his parents, a sister-in-law, a brother-in-law and a nephew.
