Obituary of Elizabeth "Liz" Jenkins

Longtime Bethune, Colorado resident, Elizabeth “Liz” Jean Sathmary Martin Jenkins passed away unexpectedly on December 23, 2014 at the Kit Carson County Memorial Hospital in Burlington. She was 70 years young. Liz was born on August 18, 1944 in Braddock, Pennsylvania to Ernest E. and Marjorie B. (Brown) Sathmary. She was one of five children born to this union. Liz attended school in Alexandria, Virginia and graduated from Francis C. Hammond High School in 1962. Later in life she met and married Jerry Alvin Jenkins on July 1, 1972 in Newport News, Virginia. To this union three girls born, Andrea, Shawna and Megin. She served in the United States Army from 1971 to 1972. She was very proud to have served her country. She was a member of the First St. Paul’s Lutheran Church. Liz enjoyed collecting angels and putting together puzzles. Charles Wysocki puzzles were here favorite ones to put together. Most important to Liz though was her family and spending time with them. She loved her children and grandchildren dearly. She never let one of her children or grandchildren leave without saying I love you. One of Liz’s favorite motto’s was you get what you give and then you turn around and give what you’ve got and she gave it all. She did not know a stranger and she had a huge heart. She always said “a stranger was a friend waiting to hear the word hi.” She will be dearly missed by all who knew and loved her. She is preceded in death by her parents, two brothers, Jimmy and Robert and one sister Jo Ann Johnson. Those left to cherish her memories are her husband of 43 years, Jerry, her three daughters, Andrea Jenkins of Burlington, Shawna and husband Alan Calhoon of Bethune, Megin Jenkins of Burlington, three grandchildren, Zach Jenkins and Brooklynn and Emie Jenkins all of Burlington. Also surviving her are one sister, Betty McCormick and husband John of Sun City, Arizona, along with numerous nieces, nephews and friends.
