Ray Kahler

Obituary of Ray Kahler

Ray Arthur Kahler, age 69, of Hugo, Colorado passed away on January 9, 2015 with his loving family by his side. Ray was born on June 10, 1945 in Hugo, Colorado to Arthur and Helen (Warner) Kahler and is one of two children. He graduated from Hugo High School in 1965 and served his country honorably in the Navy from 1966 -1970. On July 27, 1970 Ray was joined in marriage to Sarah Martinez in Las Vegas, Nevada. To this union a son, Vernon Ray, and daughter, Sarah LaRae, were born. The family resided in Hugo, Colorado where Ray worked for Standard Jensen, Clay’s Motor and the Town of Hugo while operating his own Lawn Mower Repair business. Ray was known for “if it was broke Ray can fix it”. After 38 ½ years, Ray retired from the Town of Hugo and continued to run his lawn mower business, which kept him busy until 2014. Ray enjoyed the lawn mower business because he was able to be outside and kept connected to the community. Ray never considered it work; it was just a way to help others. Ray was an active member of the VFW Joe Will Post 6612. He enjoyed mechanics, traveling, going to casinos and playing jokes on his friends and family. Most of all Ray loved being a devoted husband, father and grandfather to his family. Ray was preceded in death by his parents, Arthur & Helen Kahler; his nephew, Randy Canaday; and his great nephew Alvin Todd. He is survived by his wife, Sarah Kahler of Hugo, CO; son, Vernon Ray Kahler of Aurora, CO; daughter, Sarah LaRae Henderson of Colorado Springs, CO; sister, Doris Elaine Hanson of Albuquerque, NM; two granddaughters, and one great grandson. He is also survived by his nieces and nephews, Doug (Monna) Canaday, Lavon (George) Hasksin, Lori (Elmer) Todd, Kevin (Janet) Canaday and many cousins.
