Obituary of Glen Lane

Glen Alden Lane, 90, of Hugo, Colorado passed away on March 26, 2015 at the Lincoln Community Care Center, with family at his side. Glen was born to Glen Irwin and Lila (Smith) Lane on June 12, 1924 in Phillipsburg, Kansas one of five children. He grew up graduating from Phillipsburg High School in 1942. Glen went on to Detroit where he worked at the Wyandotte Chemical Company until December when he returned to Phillipsburg bringing with him a $40.00 engagement ring which he gave to Maxine. Glen worked from January through May for an oil drilling rig until he was drafted into the army on May 11, 1943. He was in a Specialized Training Program in South Dakota School of Mines, Rapid City. When he had earned his first furlough Glen returned to Phillipsburg where he and Maxine were married on November 1, 1943. He served his country through February 21, 1946 and reunited with his beautiful wife. Glen and Maxine moved back to Phillipsburg living with his folks, working for the Post Office as a substitute clerk and city mail carrier. The couple then moved to Hays, Kansas where Glen attended Ft. Hays State College until graduation in May, 1949. He and Maxine both worked at the college greenhouse making .45 cents an hour part time. On January 1, 1949 Jari Joanne was born and Glen started working as a Soil Conservationist in Hill City, Kansas. Patti and Richard were born in Phillipsburg and Ronald was born in Tribune, Kansas. Glen moved his family to Golden, Colorado in 1964 where the children encountered a big school. He was then re-employed with the Soil Conservation Service at Karval, Colorado but with little housing available the family moved to Hugo, Colorado. In July of 1966 they bought the present home the family enjoyed. Glen retired from the Soil Conservation Service on June 15, 1979 serving the government for 32 years and 14 days. On June 9, 1981 Glen lost his beloved wife, Maxine and his life never was the same. Oh yes he enjoyed his children and his grandchildren but there was just an empty place in his heart.
