Kathy Root

Obituary of Kathy L Root

Our precious wife, mother, dear friend, and cowgirl, Katherine “Kathy” Louise Root, was called home to be with her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, on March 22, 2018. Born on May 27, 1944, to George and Minnie Renner, in Denver, CO, Kathy was a carefree youth who worked hard on the family’s dairy farm and was often her dad’s ornery side-kick. Later, she loved sharing that he would say “she was the boy he never had.” Kathy attended Bennett Schools and became a life-long resident of this small community on the eastern plains of Colorado. Enjoying many activities as a teen, Kathy graduated in 1962. She married James Charles Root on September 16, 1962, and they were blessed with two children, James Dean “JD” and Sherry Lynn.
Spending time with her family brought the greatest delight to her heart and her other two loves were driving horses (of all sizes!) and quilting. Those passions led her to meet many wonderful people who greatly enriched her life for decades to come. Her absolute favorite place in the world was sitting up on a wagon behind her majestic team of Clydesdales, and she and her husband, Jim, were honored to be part of many weddings and parades, bringing joy to folks all around them!
Kathy was a true pioneer and often took on challenges others would have feared. In her younger days, she was a go get’em kind of gal who loved learning new things, exploring her creativity and serving others in any way possible.
She and Jim built a home in the country just up the hill from where she grew up and she used to joke that “she didn’t get far in life.”
She was an extremely dedicated parent, pouring out her heart and soul for her kids and their friends, and she was always grateful that her children were involved in 4-H for many years as well as FBLA and FFA, sports and band.
Kathy enjoyed working in various positions in our small communities and was a dedicated, loyal employee, always giving her very best in all she did.
Above all, the trait that characterized her life was one of genuine thankfulness....as she was thankful to anyone, friend or stranger, young or old, who did anything for her. She knew life and love was a gift from the Lord and never took it for granted. Even while struggling with great health challenges through the years, she continued to maintain an attitude of gratitude and knew the Lord was always by her side, giving her strength for each new day.
Her life was also marked by her strong faith and her unending joy. Through her trials, she became an encouragement to those experiencing similar hardships in their lives.
Some of her most joyous moments were walking her daughter, Sherry, down the aisle, alongside Jim, to be married; meeting her oldest granddaughter as a newborn, after Kathy had nearly lost her life to Strep A while Kasey was born in California; being there when her youngest granddaughter, Lexie, was born; walking down the aisle at Kasey’s wedding after she’d endured nearly 20 surgeries on her legs and hips; and, meeting great-grandson, Luca, and playing trains with him on recent holiday visits as he affectionately called her “GG Kaffy!”
Kathy was preceded in death by her parents; son, JD; and by three sisters and a baby brother. She is survived by her husband, Jim; devoted daughter, Sherry and son-in-law, Tom Wulff; granddaughter, Kasey Pera and her husband, Charles and great grandson, Luca; and granddaughter, Lexie, all from Manhattan, Montana; as well as lots of family & friends.
Funeral Service to be held March 31, 2018 at 10:00 A.M. at Bennett High School Auditorium, 610 7th Ave, Bennett, Colorado. Interment to follow with a horse-drawn hearse to Mountain View Cemetery in Bennett, Colorado.
Memorial contributions can be given through www.mvfcolorado.com for “Samaritan’s Purse Ministries” and Mountain View Fellowship, Strasburg, CO.
This precious lady will truly be missed and her family anxiously awaits reuniting with her someday soon. For we believe...
“When we all get to Heaven,
What a day of rejoicing that will be,
When we all get to heaven,
We’ll sing and shout the VICTORY!”
“Happy trails,” dear one...until we meet again.
