Obituary of Joe Robert Freyta

Joe Robert Freyta, 80, of Bennett, Colorado passed away unexpectedly on November 7, 2017. He was born on April 29, 1937 to Eusebio and Susana (Montoya) Freyta in Hoehne, Colorado. Joe graduated from Hoehne High School in 1955 and enlisted in the U.S. Navy in August 1956. He served in the Navy for four years on the USS Frontier and was honorably discharged in 1960. After the military, Joe worked on various ranches in Colorado and became interested in rodeo bronc riding. On January 22, 1971 he married Olinda Torres. Joe’s trucking career began with Don Ward Trucking Company. Over the years he drove for other companies and hauled the U.S. mail in his final years before retirement. He was a proud member of the N.R.A. Hard working, generous, never met a stranger, loyal friend, able to fix anything, willing to help any one, and a great mechanic, are all words that friends used to describe Joe. He will be remembered by his family as a loving husband, father and grandfather. Joe is survived by his wife, Olinda Freyta; son, Bruce Torres; daughters, Peggy Freyta (Victor Martinez) and Kimberly Freyta (Dale Trusty); and grandchildren, Shanice Martinez Freyta and Paris Martinez Freyta. He is also survived by his sisters, Virginia Duran, Marie Campbell, Bernice Masey, Madeline Baylie, and Louise Cutsinger; a loving extended family; and many friends. He was preceded in death by his parents and a son, Randy Freyta.
