Luella McArthur

Obituary of Luella Moyne McArthur

On October 19, 1930, Frank and Bertha Barber become the proud parents of Luella Moyne, which would be their last child. Lue, as she preferred to be called, was raised in a family who loved to dance. It was the Barber barn all would gather to visit friends, eat great food, and dance while the kids swung from the hay rope. Lela, sister just two years older that Lue, would walk to school. Their mother required them to always wear heavy socks, but the girls thought they’d be smart because they didn’t like the socks. A group of trees on the way to school was a good place to leave the socks while they went to school. A heavy rain came forcing snakes to take refuge in the trees keeping them from getting their socks. No more secrets could be kept from their mother. After a time, the older kids marrying and moving away from home, Lue’s parents thought they should move to Burlington where Lela and Lue could attend school. Lue graduated with the class of 1948 in Burlington. Lue loved to dance. It was at one of these dances that she met her true love and lifetime dance partner, David McArthur. Lue was 16 when they met. They were married June 22, 1948 in Colorado Springs with Edger and Marie Pratt as their witnesses. Their lives together took them from a basement dugout Southeast of Burlington to a home in Glendora, CA. To this union two girls were born, Catherine (Cathie) Marie and Carolyn Mae. Upon moving to California, Dave educated himself on the mechanics of auto body repairs but found California getting too crowded. In 1962, the family moved back to Burlington where Dave and Lue ran Dave’s Body Shop for 40 years before purchasing a home in Arizona City, Arizona. Tragedy struck the family when Dave died on June 2, 1991. Lue decided to move to their home in Arizona, living there for several years. Over the years, Lue developed COPD making it hard to play the game of golf she so dearly loved. In January 2017, Lue took a turn for the worse. While under hospice care, she was able to be home with Ed, her dear friend Patty Moore and daughter Carolyn at her side. She passed from this life in peace January 21, 2017. Preceding her in death were her parents; her husband and best friend of over 50 years, David Mc Arthur; brothers Edwin,Wayne and Alvin Barber; sister Lola, Lila and Lela. At the time of her death, she leaves two daughter, Cathie (Tom) Kneedler of Akron, CO and Carolyn McArthur of Albuquerque, New Mexico; granddaughter Wendi (Jack) Barnhart of Colby, KS; grandson, Corby (Amy) Kneedler; step great granddaughter, Daisha Riofrio; great grandson Tuck Lee of Akron and grandson John McArthur of Albuquerque, New Mexico.
