Obituary of Leo A. Schaal
Lifelong Burlington, Colorado resident Leo A. Schaal went home to his heavenly father on March 26, 2017 at the Grace Manor Care Center in Burlington. He was 87 years old.
Leo was born on September 25, 1929 in Burlington, Colorado to Emil and Pauline (Gramm) Schaal. He was one of eight children born to this union, six boys and two girls.
He was baptized in 1929 by Rev. C.E. Meadche and confirmed August 27, 1944 by Rev. H.G. Schurr at Hope Congregational Church.
Leo attended Burlington schools up until the 10th grade.
He met Helen Louise Gulden and later married her on May 19, 1968 at the Hope Congregational Church north of Bethune, Colorado.
He served on the Hope Congregational Church Board for several years and sang in the Men’s choir. He was a lifelong member of Hope Congregational Church north of Bethune. He helped in the rebuilding of the church when it was destroyed in the Tornado in 1993.
Leo loved ranching and farming while living on the home place and enjoyed driving the country side admiring the crops and cattle, in later years he enjoyed driving around Burlington. One time while enjoying one of his drives he was stopped for going the minimum speed, they were just checking to make sure everything was okay. He enjoyed spending time with little children, especially pinching their little cheeks. Leo helped with Vacation Bible School at the church and was a driver for many of the children attending Bible School. He worked at McArthur Implement for few years as a mechanic.
Those left to cherish his memories are his sister Dolores Dobler, brother Dalwon and wife Reta all of Burlington, sister in law Carol Schaal of Sioux Falls, South Dakota, sister in law Ardith Gulden of Burlington. Also surviving him are numerous nieces and nephews.
He is preceded in death by his parents Emil and Pauline Schaal, his wife Helen, brother Louis and sister in law Connie Schaal, brother Elmer and sister in law Evelyn Schaal, sister Viola and brother in law Ruben Anderson, brother Clifford and sister in law Donna, brother Milton, and brother in law Elmer Dobler, brother in law Sam and sister in law Doris Travis, brother in law Allen Hasenbalg and sister in law Marie Hasenbalg, brother in law Earl Perry and sister in law Arlene Perry.
