Obituary of Shirley Evelyn Grimes

Shirley Grimes passed away on Tuesday, October 25th, in her home in Limon at the age of 81. Shirley Evelyn Hendricks was born on April 1, 1935 in Burlington. She was the firstborn child to John and Evelyn Hendricks. Her father was a railroader for the Rock Island Line and the family moved several times from Colorado to Kansas and Nebraska and back to Colorado. Shirley started the first grade in Vona, and over the many moves, eventually came back to Vona to graduate from there. Her younger brothers, Dick and Jack both graduated from Limon. Shirley married Benny Grimes from Vona on August 11, 1957. Three children were born to this union: David Lynn, William Edward and Patricia Deann. Shirley was a wonderful wife, mother and homemaker. She always placed her family’s needs before her own. Being with her family was the top priority for Shirley throughout her life. Shirley loved to garden and was especially fond of her roses. Shirley’s first great grandchild, Logan arrived in 2007. Those who knew Shirley, loved her zest for life, her great joke telling skills and her positive outlook regardless of the situation. Throughout her life, Shirley continually displayed great resilience, perseverance and optimism. Shirley was preceded in death by her mother and father, her son David, and Ben’s parents, Lynn and Agatha Grimes. She is survived by her husband William “Benny” Grime, brothers Dick and Jack Hendricks, her sister in-law Sandi Hendricks, all from Limon. Children: Ed Grimes and wife Tracy from Limon, Patty Childress and husband Gary from Aurora. Grandchildren: Dane Grimes and wife Karen from Limon, Laurel Grimes from West Palm Beach, FL. Camille Mills and husband Kyle from Greeley. Cameron Grimes from Denver and Chandler Grimes from Greeley. Spencer Childress from Aurora, Christian Childress from San Francisco CA. Great Grandson, Logan Grimes from Limon. Shirley will be remembered as a loving mother and a devoted friend.
