Obituary of Fred E Hespen
Frederick Erven Hespen of Burlington, CO passed away Monday, October 24, 2016 following a lengthy illness.
Fred (as most knew him by) was born April 29, 1930 in Syracuse, Nebraska to Fred and Anna Hespen, he was one of six children. His parents and four brothers preceded him in death and one sister lives in Nebraska. Fred grew up in the Nebraska area, was inducted into the military service as a Marine on January 22, 1952. He was honorably discharged on January 12, 1954 and remained in the reserves until January 12, 1960. He received the National Defense Medal, the Korean Service Medal and the U.S. Service Medal.
Fred and Norma Wachs were married on December 31, 1955 in Long Beach, California. They made their home in California and returned to Colorado in 1976 where he worked for the Yuma County Road and Bridge Department from 1976-1992.
Fred loved to hunt, fish, go prospecting in the mountains, was an avid gardener, and a member of First St. Paul’s Lutheran Church. He was a friend to all who knew him and will be sadly missed by all, including relatives from near and far from Burlington, Cheyenne Wells, Colorado Springs, Denver, Kansas, Nebraska, California and Texas.
Those left to cherish his memories are his wife Norma of Burlington, one sister Doris of Nebraska and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
