Obituary of Herbert Cox
Herbert Roy Cox was born to Buford (Bud) and Eva (McClintock) Cox on a farm two miles north of Limon on January 12, 1933. He was the third of five children. When Roy was only two days old he ran a fever of 105 â 106 degrees and this left him with irreversible brain damage. Roy did not learn to walk until he was nine years old. After that he walked with a walker or cane for many years. At age six, Roy went to St. Anneâs in Denver for speech therapy.
Royâs parents lovingly took care of him at home until 1981. At that time Roy spent three months in the Genesis Life Center, where he had a part time job packaging fishhooks. Roy was later transferred to Bethany Care Center in Lakewood, and then to the Lincoln Community Nursing Home in October of 1982. For the last few years he was a resident of Prairie View Care Center in Limon.
Despite all his disabilities Roy was one of the most cheerful people you could meet. He always had a smile and especially enjoyed the attention he received from the opposite sex.
He was preceded in death by his father; Buford (Bud) Cox, sisters; Nadine Garnhart and Donna Raines both who died in 1999 all of Limon and his brother; Franklin Charles Cox of Lancaster, California who died in 2005.
He is survived by his mother; Eva Cox of Prairie View Care Center and his brother Richard (Carol) Cox of Woodburn, Oregon. One brother-in-law Robert Raines of Limon, Colorado and one sister-in-law Eva Lee Cox of Lancaster, California. Roy had many niece and nephews who will miss him and his smile.
Graveside services were held at Pershing Memorial Cemetery in Limon, Colorado Friday, December 30, 2005 at 2:00 P.M. with Pastor Rick Taylor officiating.
Memorials may be made to the First Baptist Church, P.O. Box 206, Limon, CO 80828.
