Obituary of Mildred King
Mildred Frances King was born on September 3, 1927 to Minnie F. and J. Phillip Morrison, in Iowa Park, Texas.
At age 14, while working at a skating rink, a soldier named V.R. âBudâ? King, stationed nearby, asked her for a lesson. A few months later, on December 21, 1942, they began almost 60 years of marriage. One grandchild was quoted saying âWatching their lives was like watching the greatest love story everâand was an honor to witness.â?
After the war, the couple settled in Burlington, Colorado, where Mildred helped Bud in many business ventures. Along with bookkeeping for the dray business and auto dealership, she took in ironing and laundry; but most knew her best as a devoted wife, mother, friend, and caregiver.
Motherhood began with the birth of V. Richard âDickâ? on August 25, 1944, while Bud was stationed in Hawaii. After God called home their first daughter, Phyllis at the age of four, they had three other girls: Sue, Debbie, and Julie. Her compassionate heart also found love and time for 14 foster children.
Mildred always made time for all her childrenâs and grandchildrenâs ballgames, concerts and school activities. Seeing any child brought her joy, and she always sought opportunities to care for or just be around children.
Mildred was active in the Burlington community for 60 years as a member of the VFW Auxiliary and various community service organizations. Her warmth was displayed through the dozens of quilts and needlework crafts she created, and she will be remembered for her strength, faith and compassion as a bedside caregiver for many. She and Bud saw much of the United States traveling in their motor home, and enjoyed many winters in Arizona and Texas.
Mildred passed away on February 13, 2006, at the age of 78. Memorial contributions may be made to the VFW Post 6491 or the Alzheimerâs Association and left at Equitable Savings & Loan in Burlington, CO.
