Obituary of Glen Reid

Glen Reid, a long time resident of Deer Trail passed away February 19, 2006 in Aurora, Colorado. Glen was born to Woody and Lottie Reid on July 7, 1927 in Comanche County, Oklahoma. He was a twin and being the “biggestâ€? twin he got the nickname “Big Boyâ€?. Glen enlisted in the United States Navy on July 9, 1945 and served his country until the end of World War II. While in the Navy he received the Victory Medal, American Campaign Medal and the Asiatic-Pacific Campaign Medal. Glen married Kathleen Yvonne DeMars on May 22, 1948. They were blessed with three beautiful children. In 1950 Glen and Kathy moved to the Agate and Deer Trail area. Glen was employed by Union Pacific Rail Road from 1950 until 1961. He then went to work for AMF as a civil engineer on several different missile bases in the Western United States. Wanting to be closer to his family Glen went back to work for Union Pacific from 1964 to 1971. In 1971 Glen changed careers and went to work for Coors Brewing Company until his retirement in 1993. Glen was a member of the First Baptist Church in Deer Trail, a member of the American Legion Post 121 and the Deer Trail VFW Post 9491. Glen served on the Evergreen Cemetery Board in Deer Trail. Glen could tell wonderful stories of his Grandfather who was a blacksmith during the week and a Baptist Preacher on the weekends. As a boy he spent endless hours on the Red River in Oklahoma fishing with his Grandfather, Dad and twin brother Len. Glen and Len could always find a good watermelon patch and they would eat until they couldn’t eat anymore. As a young man Glen picked cotton for 5 cents a day. Glen and Kathy enjoyed traveling with their long time friends James and Roberta Rector. It seems that Jim and Glen could always find a fishing hole no matter where they were. Glen never left home without his fishing pole “just in case there was a fishing holeâ€?. Even in the winter you could find him at a fishing hole but instead of fishing he would be ice skating with his kids. If he wasn’t fishing you could find him arrow head or rock hunting, watching the Broncos play or Rattlesnake hunting. Glen was preceded in death by his grandparents, parents, two brothers; Cecil Otis Reid of Texas, Len Reid of Germany and a sister-in-law; Gladys Reid of Texas. Glen is survived by his wife Kathy of Deer Trail, two daughters; Glenna (Marvin) Brockman of Strasburg, Colorado, Connie (Lloyd) Wallace of Agate, Colorado, one son; Ricky (Patty) Reid of Brighton, Colorado. He is also survived by eight grandchildren that he loved being with; Yvonne Brockman, Shauna Valdez, Tandy Lamberty, Michelle Wallace, Angie Cunning, Paula, Kristel and Kimberly Reid, five great-grandchildren; Eric and Jacob Valdez, Emylee Cunning, Trista Lamberty and Aurora Reid, and four nephews; Ronald Reid, Arnold Reid, Gerald Reid and Donald Reid all of Texas and numerous great-nieces and nephews and cousins. Funeral services for Glen were held Friday, February 24, 2006 at the First Baptist Church in Deer Trail, CO at 10:00 A.M. burial followed at the Evergreen Cemetery in Deer Trail.
